It's a Great Pyrenees, named after the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain.
To be fair, at one point this was German territory.

they had to leave Odin behind along with the goats after rushing to pack up their other dogs and cats to flee the fast approaching fire.
The goats? I could leave them. They scream like people and have devil eyes ... that's the last thing I need when my world is burning and I'm running for my life.

I was thinking the same thing about leaving him but want to believe they had to. I, on the other hand, LOVE some goats. They are so cool when young and so playful. Glad this had a happy ending.

While I agree, livestock guardians are not pets. They typically spend 24/7 with the flock and it's ill advised to treat them as both.
Raising a LGD as a pet requires clear boundaries to be set early.
Even then, they will bond to the member of the family they see protected. Kids. Wife. Weak husband. Whatever.
Mine is a calm giant who sleeps with a stuffed animal on the floor at my wife's side of the bed, but routinely lures coyotes into the tall grass in the back pasture to kill them.
