One thing that is great about the C8 is it will come with a proper double clutch gear box. The 8 spd torque converter tranny is decent but nothing like a DCT which they will need at this level to compete. A manual would be nice but not sure if they will provide one, at least initially.

Which is funny, because BMW is getting away from DCTs in their high end M cars and moving to standard 8 speed ZF autos.

No clue, will be interesting to see. I have a friend that is very close to one of the Corvette engineers and said GM purchased a 991 Porsche TT and Nissan GTR for testing for this car.

I wonder if Porsche will get to write a note to GM like they did when GT3 Acura bought came in for service. Porshe wrote it on the engine cover "Good luck Honda from Porsche. See you on the other side."
The 911 is "the" benchmark car for darn near everyone unless you are building a hyper-car.

That is true heavier cars and high torque engines don't get along well with either DCTs or manuals mainly due to transmission weight and the manuals get clunky. When you start talking about more than 700lb/ft or torque you are going to have to make a tough decision. There are production DCTs that can handle 1200lb/ft, but they are heavy and expensive.

My biggest criticism of Porsche is they continue to knowingly use an inferior platform with the rear engine.
It's dialed in well, but the Cayman is the better car, just handcuffed.

As far as track sounds (my opinion) The Ferrari V8 sounds like complete shite. The AMG V8...meh. Audi V10, eh, not bad. Ford GT, worst sounding race car ever.
Nothing comes close to the sound of the C7R or Porsche 911 RSR. Those you can feel in your guts and require hearing protection if you're standing next to the track when they come by. LOUD af.

They bought the Belgium company that does DCTs for Ferrari etc instead of starting from the ground up and that is the tranny expected in the C8 but I did not know it was AWD capable. I thought electric front since that is the way hyper-cars have been going but they may not want to push the price that far.

I can see how one could say that about the current Ferrari GT cars they are seriously restricted compared to the road cars. The most glorious road car to me is the 458 with the F136F engine but the F154CB in the 488 is turbo muffled.
I hadn't really thought about track cars, the LMP cars are rather muffled and not much of a fan of the GT car sound either. My favorite in-person track sound was the NA V-10 era F1 cars when they were running up to 20-21k. It was always amazing to me that each engine manufacturer had a distinct sound even though the formula for the engines meant they were very much the same. I like the Ferrari and Renault the best but Jordon was really cool as well and had the most distinctive sound on the grid.
The high revving NA super car engines are just about gone, when Audi drops the V10 it will be all turbo save the odd duck SCed engines. Well I guess we might have one more generation of the 911 GT3 with a NA engine.

But nobody is going to cross shop a track day special even with a Z06 which still has daily driver acceptability. If they do a 1LE like package for the ZO6 or a ZL1 Vette it would stomp the pony car.
I also said like so many they should turn the Cayman loose but given the GT2 RS now holds the N'Ring record (5 sec faster then the Huracan Performante and 10 secs!!! faster than the 918) it is clear they have got a serious handle on the chassis even with the engine hung off the back.

Sure but you could get a Camaro Z28 that has beaten GTR's and 911 Turbo S's on the track for less than an upgraded Corvette.

What track? The Z28 is a ~7:37 car on the Ring almost identical to a last generation 997 911 S. The 997 Turbo S would easily beat it and the 991 Turbo S would cremate a Z28 on sight.

actually wasn't referring to the 1LE.....the ZL1 does some impressive damage without the suspension mods.
meh on the GT3 as the Camaro can hold groceries and doesn't cost $270k. Don't get me wrong, the GT3 RS is probably my highest rated dream car. Just talking raw times.....

It was a track in AL they used for a C&D test a few years back. I was just making the point that a pony car can be close to some of these vettes and cost less.

Why did you nearly double the GT3 RS MSRP? $270 is getting really close to a GT2 RS which is in a whole different zipcode the the GM cars.
The GT3 has 14 cu ft of grocery space so most people that can fit into the bucket seats are golden. It ain't a Countach!
The GT3 will be about even with a 1LE on a short track but will beat it on the N'ring and beat a non-1LE like a red headed step child there even though it is significantly down on HP and torque, we are talking 15-20 seconds a lap faster.

The 1LE would get killed by a Turbo S (even though it is a GT vs a track day special) on a power track. They will be within a second on a short track that favors the teeth rattle 1LE. Note the 991.2 TS is faster around almost every track than is the 991 GT3 RS. Then take the 1LE and TS to the strip and it will get owned again. There are maybe one or two production cars ever that launch harder than a 991.2 TS especially on the street or a no prep track.
The TS may be a GT but it is probably the fastest GT in the world on the track.
