Back in those days, fans wanted the backup, Doug Powell, to play over Wickersham.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

JEff is a great guy. great tiger. he was our leading passer until Hodson broke his record. Yeah and I ran into him while his daughter was at a pitching lesson awhile back (and she will be a tiger also). so what? Your buddy is a moron.

His daughter is a very good softball pitcher for Mt. Carmel. Beth Torina needs to reel her in which I suspect she will.

Wickersham wss a good QB. Started from '83-'85. We had a very good offense in'83 but like nine new starters on D. Not a good season. Out with Stovall; in with Arnsparger.

Pretty good year in'84 but Barbay (DL) was lost for the season the first game and Henry Thomas (best NG in our history) was lost vs ND. D was only average from then on.

We didn't have much of an OL in '85. O struggled all year. But Wickersham was pretty good his career but underappreciated.

On three occasions he was so close to being hero but fell short:
1) UF in '83. Down by 7 late in the 4th but we were driving deep in UF territory when he threw an interception that Wilber Marshall took to the house. Lost 31-17.
2) UF in'84 but Juan Betanzos missed a short FG for the win. Ended up in a 24-24 tie. Wickersham should have gotten credit for the drive but the kicker let us down.
3) Bama in '85. Bama led by Mike Shula scored a late TD to tie the game at 14 all. On the ensuing kickoff return we ran a reverse to Dalton who made a great return. Couple of plays later we are set for the game winning short FG but Ronnie Lewis missed it. So again Wickersham would get no credit.

Think Mettenberger circa 2012.
