Unless you're a narcissistic sociopath, this will never happen.
People are hard wired for emotion. It's by far the norm. We meet people we really like and want to spend time with them.

first post college baw here.... i feel like the worst thing to happen was online dating apps such as tinder.... it has done nothing but give fatties and trolls a sense of self worth, throwing off the whole spectrum of who thinks they can get who.... when even a 4/10 can get 100 messages on tinder a day their heads are bound to get big

Aren't you dating like a Ugandan or something?

Interesting how the more we “network” the lonelier we are becoming. People don’t know how to have actual relationships anymore.
Amen. Having access to near infinite women leaves me constantly thinking about what else is out there, comparing women too much, and generally just not fully giving my attention to the right person. I think it's time to delete the apps.

Reducing relationships to their most primal level will leave people with anxiety and personality issues. People are wired for relationships beyond sex.

You have to realize women do the same thing. Even for someone who gets a lot of matches and dates, women are flakey. It puts me on the defensive and I tend to keep my options open due to not really knowing whether they're doing the same as well. Then you end up in a cycle of neither party investing as much as they should, so OP's premise is a good one.

This thread reminds me of how much people overthink simple relationships.

I take it, you don't want kids
Maybe marriage isn't for everyone.
But now I'd rather leave a legacy for my little girl than anything else. So no I didn't get duped.

The world is full of narcissists now (blame social media, nanny state society, etc). Narcissists care deeply about what other think about them but have extreme difficulty in connecting and forming real bonds with anyone. They live behind a facade. That is the root cause of what kingbob so eloquently laid out.
I am married and have been for 12 years. I am close to 40 now. Marriage is the most wonderful thing if you have children. If you don't plan to have kids I can tell you that marriage is pointless. Just be with your partner by choice. No reason to bring the law into it. People grow and change. You may want to be with someone else later down the line. Nothing wrong with that if don't have kids.
Also, for all of you younger folks not married, I would advise that you focus on improving yourself. Exercise and work out. Become expert at something. Dominate a hobby or your work. Be an alpha by being focused. If you want the best, you have to be the best. I developed later in life, started a very successful business and developed wealth. I probably look and feel in better shape now than I did when I was 21. I have never had so many women throw themselves at me as they do now, even married.
The point is to understand that you can and will change - especially if you want to change and improve. Don't get married unless you have or want kids, focus on and improve yourself, and you'll end up with an amazing partner.

Living alone is great for a certain amount of time. After a year or two it got old for me. Humans were meant to be more social than that.

Sometimes the conspiracy theorist in me wonders if there has been a concerted effort to destroy the nuclear family via imbalanced divorce courts and welfare. There's no denying the influence that a strong family contributes to determining success in future generations. I've wondered if certain individuals wanted to remove that influence and thus reduce the future competition for themselves and their own.

Bingo
We are social creatures. Unless a person has a personality disorder, they crave relationships.

I believe it's part of the communist plan for subverting America from way back when.

Divorce should simply be imo this:
Anything during the marriage possession wise is split 50%.
Salaries are irrelevant. If a woman didn't work while married then that's her fault. We live in a world where women are widely accepted to work. She was making withdrawals from her investment (the marriage) if she chose to not work.
Alimony is abolished. This is 2017, NOT 1950.
If there are children involved, there should be a escrow account in which the ex-wife must provide an itemzed document of all charges incurred for that month for CHILD ONLY reason in which the ex-husband will pay for out of said escrow account once verified. This is if the two parents cannot workout an agreement without the courts involvement.
Women enslave their ex-husbands with their progeny and its absolute bullshite.
Divorce should be the absolute LAST OPTION.
tl;dr
You get what you brought before the marriage and 50% during.
Women don't get alimony.
Child support is either mutually agreed on or court driven where the man via verification pays for child only costs.

Why wouldn't you want a partner in life to be your friend, support you, raise kids with, and grow old with? I'm a millennial and I believe in that and want that. Of course not everyone gets it, but usually people that deserve it will get it
