Canoe the MS River from Memphis to Vicksburg, or Vicksburg to Port Eads. Should be able to cover about 30 or so miles per day. Best time of year would be late Sept, Oct and early Nov.

I've always wanted to do that in an open boat, cedar canvas canoe. If you're an experienced Yak guy, that might work too. But would limit the amount of gear you could take.

I'm not sure how enjoyable vickburgs to port eads would be. More ship traffic than I'd want

I've paddled a lot of the Mississippi (in a kayak) and it is a beautiful river. Haven't been as far north as Memphis,but have done the 50 mile stretch into Vicksburg.

Looking for something non paddling as I've probably paddled 3,000 miles in the last 5-6 years.

Thanks for the suggestion though as it may open someone else's eyes to the idea.
