Not really... I hate the WC to be honest and feel it should be top 3 DS winners with top seed having time off. But at least it makes people more interested and keeps teams in the playoff race longer

Get rid of the divisions; they are phony constructions.
Top 4 make the playoffs; maybe 5 and 4/5 can do a 1 game playoff if people like that.

I like it. Baseball is a LONG season and, particularly this year, many of the division races were decided months before the end of the season. By the time we started Sept. it was a done deal that LA, Houston, Washington, Cleveland, were going to be the division winners. The two wildcard formats gives fans of other teams a reason to remain interested all the way until the end (most years).
Sure, it may seem a bit unfair to have 162 games essentially come down to one game. But the other way of looking at it is those 2 teams shouldn't otherwise be in the playoffs (even though there are many times the WC team has a better record than one or more of the division winners). Therefore, it's more of a play-in game vs. the beginning of the playoffs.
Perfect? No. And I can understand why some don't like it. However, the format still allows the 6 division winners the opportunity to play series as opposed to just one winner take all game.
Admittedly, I don't follow MLB that closely throughout the regular season. But for pure drama and excitement, I think the MLB playoffs are the best of any American sport. It's not drawn out over 2.5 months with over half the league in the playoffs (like the NBA). We get important games all week (unlike the NFL which only plays on the weekends) and everything in condensed into one month

A first round bye would actually hurt a team tremendously. Their timing would be off and they would be rusty from not playing for so long. It's not a coincidence that whenever a team with a long layoff (2012 Tigers, 2007 Rockies, 2006 Tigers) plays a team that went through a tough, lengthy series (2012 Giants, 2007 Red Sox, 2006 Cardinals) in the World Series, the team with the long layoff usually plays like shite and gets hammered.
