Flight help - MSY to Little Rock

Have to be in Little Rock on November 9th to do some teaching. It's for a non-profit so I'm trying to keep their costs down (I'm volunteering my time, but they are covering my travel expenses).
Plan was to fly in night before and fly out that night. Doesn't look like there is a lot of options for flights. I found a flight for $400 round trip but to make it work I need to fly in Wed night and fly out Fri morning at like 545 am, this is on Southwest. (that airline apparently doesn't have afternoon or evening flights out)
Other airlines are even more expensive. It looks like the flights into LIT are ok... but the ones departing LIT are very few and super expensive.
Any tricks? If $400 is the best I can do that will have to do, but I feel like that's insane.

Is there a convention in little rock on wednesday night/ thursday morning? A one-way fare is $363 for that thursday the 9th to Nola. WTF? Maybe there's a conference in Nola on Friday the 10th? Thursday night football at the superdome?
Would you leave from Gulfport on Delta for $331 roundtrip for Wednesday evening to Thursday evening (departs Little rock at 5:45pm)? Gets back to Gulfport at 10pm, could be back in nola by 11:30pm? Google flights link

Not sure about what's going on. THe group I'm teaching is about 75 people. Doubt that would move the needle.
Arkansas does play at LSU that Saturday. Maybe that's it?
I could very well do that trip from Gulfport. Gets me home that night. It's only about 20-30 min each way further from my house to GPT as compared to MSY. And GPT is a smaller airport so might be quicker to get in and out of.
Thanks!!!

Happy to help . Just a warning, that link (if you click through) gives you a basic economy fare at $330 on delta. If you want to pick your seat, you can move to main cabin for $20 more each way, total would be $370. On delta's basic economy fare, you get whatever seat they assign but can still bring a personal item and carryon bag. That's pretty much the only difference, it's your call on whether $40 is worth it to assign seats or not

It sucks, but that business plan was doomed before it got off the ground.

What they needed to do was start with two planes flying
MSY - SHV - West Houston - MSY and
MSY - West Houston - SHV - MSY
MSY - SHV - West Houston - MSY and
MSY - West Houston - SHV - MSY

Too expensive for a twin turboprop with 30+seats. They should have used "the Trickler" or the Cessna 208 Caravan, like Southern Airways Express does. It seats about 9 pax and is single engine. It's a lot slower than a Saab 340, however.
I'm sure MSY to MEM had the most riders, and it used to be served by NW Airlink when MEM was a hub.

Yep. And until Katrina, Southwest had a direct LIT>MSY flight that they discontinued right afterwards. I keep hoping they'll bring it back, but seeing as it's been 12 years, I'm not optimistic.

I've gotten some decent deals flying to LIT through IAH on United.

Not sure if this will help you or not about leaving out of Gulfport, but last Dec 26th I flew GPT-ATL-LR. Departed GPT at 6am and arrived in LR at 10:15. Very short, easy flights. I went up there to purchase a vehicle so I had a 1 way ticket which I believe ran me a little over $300.

How easy of an airport is LIT? If I do that flight that Cuse mentioned out of GPT, it leaves LIT at 5:44 PM. I'm supposed to be teaching until 3:50 Pm. It's at the Crowne Plaza which appears to be 13 miles away. Any chance?
Edit: No checking bags

Without checking bags, probably doable. Now, I was only in the airport on arrival and somebody from the dealership picked me up, but I'd say it's a middle of the road size airport. Definitely smaller than say Memphis.

If you leave the hotel for 4pm Google Maps has it as a 17-20 minute drive.
4:20 arrival at Clinton Regional
4:25 drop rental and walk to terminal
4:30 TSA Checkpoint
That gives you exactly an hour to make it through and get to your gate by 5:34 (10 minute cutoff).
I'd take the flight if I were in this situation.

I doubt I'd even take a rental. Not there long enough. Hotel has airport shuttle, or if I'm pressed for time, I'd probably Uber (umm... I assume little rock has Uber?)
(Checking)
Yeah, they have Uber.

Then yeah. I’d do it.

Extremely easy airport. Arrived at 6am today for a 7am flight with checking bags and no problem.
Your biggest issue that time of day is traffic, but if you leave WLR before 4pm, you should be fine.
