Consider it a $12 million investment total.

That's what i thought. Why does the first 4 pages of this thread act like we would get some kind of deal based on the OP's post?

It is a $12 million dollar investment, and we have already paid out nearly $3 million of that so far.

What he means is that we will owe O at least $12 million beginning with January 2017 regardless of how many games he actually coaches for us.

Plus there is the obvious about optics, pulling the trigger too fast, etc. Remember, we expect to replace Orgeron with an absolute home run hire. Can you do that if you canned a guy after one year, with four years left on his deal?

If you believe a guy is going to completely ruin the program (poor recruiting on top of many losses on the field), optics don't matter. You act to save recruiting classes to save future seasons.

As for the expecting an absolute home run hire bit, people would need to be realistic. You have to be expecting someone competent to steady the ship (which you believe is The Titanic). Expecting a home run under these circumstances is folly.

Exactly. As volatile as this is now...imagine going winless the rest of the year. Yea there's gonna be a lot of patience at that point

The problem is Alleva. What respectable coach will come work for him at this point ? He must go, then you’re making a replacement hire which is never a quick process, so you’d be asking a coach to step into a situation where he doesn’t know who his boss will be.

I’d like to think there’s a way out of this but I’m not sure there is.

Fire Alleva tonight. New AD will fire O and bring in his guy. Sell Alleva for being the clusterfrick that he is and boom problem solved.

The fact that there's a buyout clause at all is pretty ridiculous. It's not like he had better options.

Do they even do that for coaches in the NFL?

"Hey we are promoting you to HC, giving you a raise, and guaranteeing 4 years salary no matter how well you do."

how quickly do you think they can get an AD in? I forget how long the process took when we hired Alleva but it seems to be one that takes months not weeks.

Nebraska handled their business and Riley is dead man walking. I would assume we could have a guy in place by December just in time to fire O after 4-8.
