This should affect the Pels as it goes into effect right when all of our star players plan to leave for bigger markets after the team goes 0-82 this season...

great use of "affect" and "effect"

The resting rules are absurd. If the spurs don't want to play their stars, why the frick should they have to.
i could totally see popovich playing his stars for 1 minute, calling a timeout and benching them the rest of the night.

Because the NBA is ultimately about entertainment. Fans feel ripped off if they pay to see player X and he's rested for no reason.
If Pop did what you said, I guarantee that he'd be fined anyway.

I know they limited it, but did they completely cut out all nationally televised games that are also a 2nd leg of a back to back for teams?
And yea, I hope Pop does that, would not surprise me at all.

I think coaches are still going to rest and just eat the fine. If they think it'll help them make a run in the playoffs why sacrifice that for a fine that's likely barely a dent in their salary.

I meant, the players are not sitting due to injury.

If Pop tries to defeat the spirit of the rule on a technicality you bet your arse he will
ETA: if you read the actual rule it isn't that bad. Basically, don't rest your stars on big time televised games, and don't rest multiple players for away games. You can still get your players rest if you want, but don't screw over the fans.

It's also a business. If a team feels it's overall detrimental to play their players when they think it's better to rest them, they should. If Duncan got hurt cause he played too many minutes, he'd end up missing more games than just sitting out one and then the fans would've gotten screwed anyway.
As for getting fined, your opening up a new can of worms in telling a team how many minutes players are required to play. Overall, the NBA is grasping for straws

The realness of this argument is that the current TV deal is the primary reason these player contracts have skyrocketed in the last 5 years. It's only fair that the TV Networks push back a little bit to have players worth watching on the national games. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. But again, its a really high rent problem to have.

"Son, sorry you missed Lebron tonight, so how about I make it up to you and we'll see Dennis Schröder when the Hawks come to town?"

If the NBA wanted to truly discourage teams from resting, they should reduce the number of games in a season. But they'll never do that
They did pretty much get rid of back to backs which helps

The new problem is that with 16 team divisions, there are way too many games beyond the 82 for LeBron and Curry. They play 100-something.
3 game series first round. No games at lower seed team except 4/5 5 games 2 2 1 while big boys rest.
5 game series 2nd round. 2 at higher. 2 at low then 5th at higher.
7 games for conf champ.

There's a big difference in game intensity between any playoff game and most regular season games, so the number of games is difficult to compare.
But at the end of the day, what's the rule really do other than make players make an appearance in a game? There's no minimum minutes requirement. What's to stop Pop or Kerr or any coach from starting a player and then benching the rest of the game? It's as "within the rules" as benching the player altogether last season.

When i was a kid there were 3 rounds, total.
Similar issue on pitching staff now.
Went from 154 to 162 and then added playoffs. Now playin game. Rounds of Playoffs.
