IRC, the NFL PROMISES a certain level of viewership for the advertising dollars and last year it fell below the quota. I think the NFL actually had to pay back some of the ad revenue, but I could be wrong.

They had to give quite a bit back but I don't think they actually gave money back. I think they paid the debt by providing free advertising for those that were owed.

Seems to be about the same case for NASCAR. At the first of the season I remember seeing one of the top five drivers, an older one that I can't recall the name, but he said his team was losing their major sponsor at the end of this season.

Fandom seems to be be well below normal this season.
