You know I haven't seen or read this anywhere but how is it that high paid athletes are able to make the kind of money they do because of the military and the flag but Joe the plumber makes his money in a vacuum without any assistance from anyone?
There have been a heaping pile of talking heads from the right in the last couple of days saying something to the effect that NFL are "allowed" to make millions. That they should be grateful for having the opportunity to earn huge salaries......yet these same people will extoll the virtues of hard work and dedication as the impetus for successful business people earning large amounts of wealth. Why is it the system that allows athletes to earn tons of money but business people earn their money despite the system which is, according to most people on the right, stacked against the poor, put upon rugged individual job creator?
Trump and the right is 100% correct in this instance....it is the system that allows athletes to earn piles of cash. Where they are dead wrong is that it is hard work and dedication alone, with no help from anyone, that enables others to earn piles of cash. The fact of the matter is that we are all beneficiaries of the system. NFL players and Joe the Plumber are all able to succeed due in part to the collective effort of ALL OF US.

This is asinine.
Everyone in this country enjoys the benefits of roads and bridges and a strong military. Not just the successful. The poor get these exact same "advantages."
Ironically, it is actually the taxes of the successful that in large part finance these things you claim they didn't build. Their efforts literally did "build that." The unsuccessful masses, who you insinuate are somehow not getting the credit they deserve for the success of the wealthy, by and large receive the full benefit of the supporting infrastructure for a proportionally much smaller contribution. They literally "didn't build that."
I suppose you also believe that the government provides the air we breathe, the sunshine that powers our world and the gravity that keeps things where we put them. Because without these things these rich guys could never be successful. Hey Earth, you didn't build that!

And Joe the Plummer shows gratitude by honoring the flag and anthem

You are 100 % correct. Would that more on the right were man enough to have admitted this when they were apoplectic over Obama pointing this out by saying "you didn't build that".

Again you are 100% correct. Where you are dead wrong is that these things are built by EVERYONE's taxes, the successful, those of us in the middle, and even the poor who pay sales tax, payroll taxes and and property taxes. Poor people also include soldiers and policemen. Finally the ranks of the successful and the poor are dynamic....lots of very successful people today were poor as dirt yesterday and were aided by the successful so they could become successful. The GI bill is a great example. Student loans, food stamps, social security for the disabled and the orphaned....all examples of poor people being helped along the road to success.
Just the opposite is also true. Many successful peopl find themselves on hard times, often times through no fault of their own....and these peopl are also aided by all of us.
None of us is an island. We have all been blessed to be born or naturalized or allowed to live and work in the greatest nation and system man has ever known. None of us did any of that on our own....we all enjoy what we have thanks to many others. This is why I personally stand during the national anthem. Were I told I had to stand because it was expected of me I would probably do it BUT it wouldn't mean nearly as much to me.

The you didn't build that comment from Obama was directed and hard working small business owners and others who make honest livings owning and running businesses.
That's a far cry from people making millions of dollars and living lives most of could only dream of by virtue of nothing more than being really good at a game.

So there is no hard work involved in making it to the NFL? There are no jobs created by a lifelong dedication to perfecting ones trade? NFL players start perfecting their craft at 7 o 8 years of age and sacrifice a heaping pile to get where they are....just like those small business owners....except the risk involved in becoming a pro athlete is far greater than becoming a successful small business owner.......
