Average 401K Match
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the typical or average 401K match nets out to 3.5%. Their 2015 National Compensation Survey found that of the 56% of employers who offer a 401K plan:
49% of employers with 401K plans match 0%
41% match a percentage of employee contributions between 0-6% of salary.
10% match a percentage of employee contributions at 6% or more of salary.
The median is a 3% match.
From glancing over this thread, it seems that a good many here have unusually good plans. Similar to my own, yours is roughly average.

No Match.
1 to 4 years with company 2.5% of Salary
5 to 9 years 5 %
10 years and over 10%

100% up to 3%, 50% for the next 2%

Company contributes 10% regardless of my contribution. No matching.
FWIW I put in 10% on top of that.

100% match on the first 4.5%. But we do have a share save plan that allows you to put up to 10% of salary in a savings account and purchase stock twice a year at a 15% discount.

How long is the holding period after purchase?

This is what I receive also and I take advantage of the free money but I think we're getting shafted after seeing what everyone else gets

No, these are the people getting shafted:

This thread is no indication of the normal 401k plans out there
I have a very very good plan at work and it's run of the mill according to this thread.
I'd say 90% of this thread is well above the averages

My employer doesn't match shite. Definitely the biggest drawback to working there, but we do have a very solid medical plan and other comp is above average for the industry.
There is talk of matching in 2018, but I'm not holding my breath.
I'm just putting away as much as I can on my own and counting anything else as icing if it ever happens.

they match 5% and give 4.5% in lieu of the pension that ended a couple of years ago.

Self employed solo 401k. In addition to standard 18k can put another 25 percent of income up to 36k bringing total to 54k. I am happy!
