There is a generational divide when it comes to LSU football.

The younger people (i.e. most of you) weren't around until Saban. You didn't know LSU for what it was for 60 years: a perennial also-ran, occasionally stringing together a few good seasons. The older people lived through the mediocrity of Cholly Mac, the peaks and valleys of the 80's, and the abortion that was Curley Hallman.
All you know is winning. You don't have patience. You don't have the perspective that comes from years of sucking. So what do you do? You act as though a loss to Mississippi State represents an existential crisis. It's not.
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems in the moment. Good times will come back around.

BS. I sat through Cholly and Curley and have no patience with this shite when it is obviously going to decline further before it gets better.
The administration is to blame for not transitioning away from Les faster and then for the process that brought us Ed O.
I have been through the bad times before and never want to go back, which is exactly where we are heading. The evidence is right in front of you.

"Because we used to suck it is okay that we suck once again."
Shut up old man.

Yeah, but it will probably cost $12 million and one binder before that happens. Thanks, Alleva.

We don't even technically "suck" yet. We lost one game.
Win at Florida and everybody will calm down.

Here comes the old Louisiana guy to explain why it's ok to be mediocre and lose to Bama.
I mean by God that's the way we've always done it.
This state is doomed and will always be doomed to never reaching its potential because of this attitude.

This is such a tired narrative. I was there during the pre-Saban period and certainly remember what it was like to be at the bottom of the SEC. The thing I learned from that is if you're not moving forward, you're falling behind. Meaning, if you try to coast in this conference, sooner or later its going to fall apart. That's what I was worried about with Miles. I also learned that it is a lot harder to find a coach who can rebuild a completely broken program than one that hasn't hit bottom yet.

Uh, no. From the Mid 1950's until Archer year 2 LSU was a top 10-top 15 program. I can't judge the Stovall era because of the shock of the death of Bo Rein. LSU went to bowl games in that period nearly every year. Back then making a bowl game was huge because there were only 10-15 bowl games.

You know how kids are. Always wanting the next shiny toy. Most THINK they have all the answers, but in fact, are clueless.

Even the old guys have never known how it feels to lose by 30 to Ms State

I didn't know Cholly Mac LSU football, but I did experience 80's LSU football. And because of that, to the contrary of the point you're trying to make, I'm impatient and really don't want to see LSU have to go through yet another period of peaks/valleys to abortions to mediocre back to abortion. It's completely unnecessary. If it's time to get honest and pull the plug and hit the reset switch, it's time to do it. Period. Why do some of you feel the norm is to do things the hard way and go through years and years of frustration?
quote:See above. Absolutely do.
You don't have the perspective that comes from years of sucking.
quote:This I can jump aboard with. To that same point, some of the teams who own us right now will fall hard once certain coaches (who will not be named) retire. So if we absolutely have to go through a decline (nobody ever has to go through it) - then I'm glad we went ahead and got started. That's about the only silver lining I can come up with.
Nothing is ever as bad as it seems in the moment. Good times will come back around.

Lmao. You tell em kid. You know it all don't you. I know I sure as hell don't WANT mediocrity. I also have common sense and intelligence. Something that people like you lack.

Exactly - FL and the other SEC opponents, except AL and AU, should not "scare" anybody. LSU can still go 9 - 3 to 10 - 2.

We'll be lucky to score 2 TDs on Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee, and Florida combined. All 4 of those teams have better defenses than MSU IMO. Hard to win games like that when our DL is also going to get pushed around and tired out.

I remember the rotten years and thats why i have a sense of urgency not to return to them.
We learned the formula to winning when Saban was here and that was to spend $$ on facilities and coaches. But we decided to go cheap on the coaching hire anyway. Nice job Alleva.

I've been through both, nobody was happy during the sucky previous eras just like nobody will be happy with the current sucky era.

The LSU fan base is divided just as bad as republicans and democrats are.

I would say that probably 90% of the fanbase is on the same page right now. Both on here and out in the real world.
