MSU is a damn strong team that, if not injury stricken, will challenge for the West title. it is Mullens MO. 2014 was his last strong team. he can't just "reload" like Bama so his team success is cyclical. this year, he has an experienced and talented qb along with a damn good OL and DL and the other supporting staff.
LSU, on the other hand, is rebuilding. YES, rebuilding. our task to rebuild is not as daunting as MSU's and we should be able to do it faster. losing Pocic and Teuhuma was huge and we are breaking in new guys on the OL. and not only did our D lose 4 incredible experienced starters but our DL has 3 injuries, 2 of which are our best guys. we have one damn young defense and they NEED a healthy DL to succeed.
I know some of you are going to say LSU should be able to just "reload" and I hope we get to that point one day but we simply aren't there now. freshmen OL and back up DL along with freshmen LB and secondary is not reloading, it's rebuilding.
I think the talent is there and think this team will end the year much improved. I know some fans want perfection and they want it now but it just isn't going to happen. it is what it is. firing everybody now is a stupid notion and if you truly believe that you will never be happy as a fan.

You think it's just a coincidence that we hired a coach who's only previous tenure was marked with failures exactly like this one?
And we only had this happen twice in our previous 12 seasons.
And then three games into his current tenure we experience a massive failure?
Yeah probably a coincidence. This is what people signed up for with a O, a man famous for failing miserably. Had the hire been Fleck, Brohm, Fuente, Taggart, Venables, etc. everyone would be agreeing they get more time

I have become convinced that the "cooler heads" have enough sense to stay away from this board for a while after this kind of loss.
I don't get the expectation of perfect seasons, 500 yds offense per game, and 0 points scored by the opponent.
These are kids. I have 2 this age. They frick up. It's not a reason to fire everyone who wore a headset Saturday night.

The team gave up mid-way through the second quarter.
The weak-mindedness and lack of focus were a direct reflection of Orgeron quitting. A rout ensued.
Les employed an overall outdated strategy and was incredibly stubborn. But his teams never gave up like that.

LSU, on the other hand, is rebuilding. YES, rebuilding.
Even a rebuilding LSU should not lose by 30 to Mississippi State.
And just like State's 2014 team (maybe their best ever), this one will lose 3 games at least.

You are not alone Gramps. Anyone looking at this team objectively should see that playing this many freshman points to depth and experience problems.
We flat out got our butts whipped in the trenches. There really isnt a gameplan that can make up for that kind of domination. Sure the coaches could have done some minor things to help our cause but watching that game, MSU was flat out better than us in the trenches.
2019 is the year that will be make or break for Coach O. All of our most talented players (minus key and guice) are Freshman and Sophmore. In 2019, they will be Juniors and Seniors. 2019 is the Year.
The above statement doesnt mean that we as fans shouldnt expect to see improvement and better game planning, it just shows that this year will definitely be a learning experience for a lot of our talented young bucks.

You are dealing with the college football fanbase with lowest average IQ

Some fans want perfection, but most fans want a team that won't lose by 30 to Mississippi St. This was a terrible loss, and one of the worst by the program in two decades (even prior blowouts had better excuses - like Harris making his first start in Auburn).
I don't think we do anyone any favors by pretending this loss isn't awful. It is. We don't need to minimize the loss to also keep a cool head.
Because it does only count as one loss. Saban lost to UAB his first season here, and that hire turned out okay. Teams lose, particularly in transition. Sometimes they lose in humiliating ways. The question is, how do they respond?
It's too early to pack up on the entire Orgeron tenure. Let's at least wait until his second SEC game before getting the tar and feathers. But the issue is how he responds to this setback. And panic helps no one.

But we really aren't that young gramps.
The youth excuse is a BS excuse anyway in today's college football. Freshmen are recruited and expected to play now days.

I heard everyone saying how strong of a team the Vikings were after they beat a bad Saints team and then they got whipped this week by the Steelers.
I'm not saying that State isn't good , but Bama will skull drag them all over the field much the way State did Lsu.

I thought we needed to hire Orgeron for continuity so that we could win the SEC this season?
That was one of the arguments made last year.

I do basically agree with you, BUT, it's time for Aranda and Canada to earn their multi-million dollar paychecks. Aranda's defense is fast, talented, but thin at certain positions (be nice to get Lawrence back) and relying upon true freshmen a LOT. I would stack the line -- not only pass-blitz, but run-blitz as well. True, that will put pressure on our corners but they're good and can handle it. True, we'll get beat at times but this more aggressive scheme I think is the best that Aranda can do, given the personnel he has available.
Canada needs to put on his thinking cap and think of ways to be more unpredictable (I saw more unpredictability in the first two games than the MSU game.) He has to understand the O-line is average to above-average at best, and, he is going to have to rely upon true freshmen to some extent. Need more shorter passes and screens. I like the up-tempo mindset, and the shifts and motion, and if you want to call that "gimmicky," so be it... bring on the gimmicks. Also, I wouldn't mind seeing what Brennan can do, he has much more arm talent than Etling and maybe could back opposing teams away from stacking the line of scrimmage.
