Had lunch with him yesterday and he use to be 350, got down to 220 and is now 250 looking to slim back down
Said he's doing a modified Rock diet and workout and started two weeks ago. He is doing 4500 calories a day, up from 3500
So far he's down 8 lbs and 2 inches in two weeks
My question for you guys- How does a guy up his calories by 1,000 a day and lose 10 lbs and 2 inches? It's impossible to lose fat in a surplus, correct?
I was trying to question his methods but didn't have any good evidence. Just curious how this was possible. No way his TDEE is that high.

Quality of food and type of calories are important. He could have changed to better quality food which your body can use more of. No real way to see without knowing where he's getting the calories.
Also the workouts might be better. My guess would be better workouts and better quality food at the right time

Yes, he mentioned it's all "clean" food(I hate that term), but tons of protein and rice and sweet potatoes
Doing 1.5x body weight for protein

Protein burns the most amount of calories too digest. He could have lost a good bit of water weight by going back to "clean" foods.

I imagine "clean" foods have a much lower salt content in them.

Could be resetting his metabolism, so if he increased his calories, his TDEE also could have increased.

what HFP said is more than likely the case. and he is prolyl doing more non exercise activity no thinking about it.

This or he is simply burning more calories exercising

If you are absorbing more nutrients from food then your body will store it if you are eating at a surplus.
I suspect the guy is exercising a ton and the extra calories are needed.
