This is also a "frick off" to the ones who think "rock is dead"

I'm not being sarcastic.
Brand New's album is good?
I haven't listened to them since Deja Entendu, but that was a good album.

This is hard. I feel that this year has been insanely deep, and there are so many good albums that have came out in the past month or two, I'm still trying to catch up, so this will likely change. But for now:
The War on Drugs- A Deeper Understanding
Big Thief- Capacity
The National- Sleep Well Beast
LCD Soundsystem- American Dream
The New Pornographers- Whiteout Conditions
Slowdive- Slowdive
Sorority Noise- You're Not As _____ As You Think
Charly Bliss- Guppy
Fleet Foxes- Crack Up
Priests- Nothing Feels Natural
Honorable Mention or Need to listen to a bit more:
The Magnetic Fields
Cloud Nothings
Japandroids
Grizzly Bear
Broken Social Scene
Brand New
Manchester Orchestra
Kendrick Lamar
Alvvays
Everything Everything
Spoon
Mount Eerie
Alex G

Flying Microtonal Banana is better, in my opinion.

Music is obviously very subjective, but to my ears, this is probably the strongest year for music since 2010.

I'll have to check out Thundercat again. I saw them open up for the Red Hot Chili Peppers 7 or 8 years ago and they got booed till they left the stage

Its just me personally, but im just not hearing anything that blows me away so far this year. A steady diet of decent but nothing that grabs me like the Tame Impala Currents, Art Angels, Teens of Denial, Metamodern, Jeffrey, B'lieve Im Goin Down, They Want My Soul, Here and Nowhere Else etc of the last several years
But im in the miniscule minority apparently that was much more hyped over Lost In The Dream than I am over A Deeper Understanding so take my opinion fwiw. maybe im just not as into music this year as I usually am

A lot of the usual suspects, so I won't go into those. One album that I'm surprised so many people are sleeping on is that fantastic Kevin Morby album, City Music. It's certainly not the most ambitious or technically impressive album I've heard this year, but it might be the one I've listened to the most.

This is why we can't have nice things.
1. Thundercat is a single person. He tours with a band, but Stephen Bruner = Thundercat
2. It doesn't surprise me that a RHCP crowd would react like that. Most of them have shitty taste in music.

Why Thundercat would be opening for RHCP is beyond me, beyond Flea is a famous bassist and Thundercat is a famous bassist. Those are two very different musical vibes and audiences. Thundercat is a musician's musician, one of those guys that other artists talk about being their favorite and blowing their minds. The heathens at RHCP probably didn't have a clue.

I've seen the Slowdive album on a lot of lists.
Am I the only person that thought that Ride - Weather Diaries was a better album, as far as 90s Shoegazing comeback albums go? I hardly see it on any lists. Maybe I just like Ride more.

To be honest, I haven't even listened to the new Ride album, but I do really like the new Slowdive.

Just finished Deer Tick volume 1, and it's damned good. If Vol 2 is this solid.. damn.
