Thanks
Is it better to go ahead and split it now or wait that long ?
Just cut it 2 weeks ago and tried to split a section and it was full of water.

Drying as a cut log, or drying as split firewood?
As a tree, it depends on how large it is. Something in the 10-12" diameter will be OK after about 6 months. Bigger trees might take a year.
Split firewood kept out of the weather seasons ok in about 2 months.

Split and cross stacked will dry out quickly. Quick and stacked tight takes about 4-6 months. A whole log will probably start rotting before the middle dries out.

I would cut and split in the spring. Store under a lean-to to keep some rain water off of it. Ready to go when the cold weather hit.

I split some in April and could use if now if necessary.
