How long does it take an oak tree to dry out

I usually wait a year.

Drying as a cut log, or drying as split firewood?

As a tree, it depends on how large it is. Something in the 10-12" diameter will be OK after about 6 months. Bigger trees might take a year.

Split firewood kept out of the weather seasons ok in about 2 months.

My granpappy always said choppin firewood warmed you twice.

Split and cross stacked will dry out quickly. Quick and stacked tight takes about 4-6 months. A whole log will probably start rotting before the middle dries out.

I split some in April and could use if now if necessary.
