In this case, notice was given 48 hours in advance.

Working messes up weekend plans.

When boss says come in, that's your notice.

What industry and how frequently does it happen? Salary or hourly?

So my kid had a bunch of questions about Irma cause we've got family in Florida. So I tried to give him the basics on hurricanes: most powerful in the Northeast, rotate clockwise, etc.

Then I realized how much I had forgotten about the basic science of them. Then I realized I'm pretty drunk for a Wednesday night.

If its an approved vacation day a decent boss would never make such a request. If its a Saturday 48 hours is adequate.

Can you even require that? Is it over 40 hours, OT paid?

That sucks, and I'd gripe about it, but I'd show up.

The only thing that matters is how much he wants the job. If it's a great job with long term potential and career growth then you better keep your mouth shut and show up.

Why not tell the boss you have something planned already? If you did and your boss is a dick, better rethink your long term career plans there. If your boss truly needs you, that's life.

If it's not overtime it better be a paid 50 hour week, Monday included I mean.

Would they have had the option to work Monday or Friday? Or was the whole place closed?

I would say your notice is sufficient, but if they would have had the option, I'd tell the last week.
