Probably not a good idea to scare people away from shelters. Now the sheriff won't be able to arrest as many people with oustanding warrants as he could have by just keeping his mouth shut.

OTOH, that might be exactly what he is doing purposely. Would you want to house the criminal elements of society during a hurricane if you didn't have to?

Maybe the idea is just to keep predators away? I am sure thee will be children there. Seems like a way to avoid added problems?

Seems like more of an attempt to keep criminals away from others seeking shelter than to generate a bunch of arrests.

I doubt he wants his officers having to make a bunch of arrests at a shelter.

The real argument isn't that he gave away his plans, it's that he's putting criminals in danger. Depending on the nature of the crime, I can kind of agree with that, but if they've been avoiding arrest for a bunch of unpaid tickets, that's not his fault.
