LSU's defense is back now in thanks to Dave fricking Aranda, thank you Aranda. But it disappeared when Chavis was in control, dude was a horrible DC and people couldn't see it at first, but I did. LSU's great athletes made him look good like they make every coach look good, but he gave up yards in chunks because of that crap he had them playing. But now Aranda has returned them back to the dominant D they were and yes, I have to say it, back to the dominant D they were when coach Saban was there.

I'm very pleased that Aranda is our DC, but he is NOT the reason for our great defense last year and this year. The reason is talent. Dave Aranda's defense was shat upon by Alabama when Aranda was at Wisconsin.

Our defense was great under Chavis until we ran thin on the line. Once Bennie Logan exited, the year after Brockers, we had to rely on Freak (who was anything but), Ego, and a freshman LaCouture. And the next year it was La Couture and a freshman Godchaux with no depth.

It was only last year that our line matured enough to run talent and depth onto the field. When you combine that with our back seven, that is consistently the most talented in the country, we had an elite defense in any good DC's hands.

Like I wrote, I'm glad to have him. I like his approach even more than I liked Chavis'. But if we had Kevin Steele as DC right now we'd have an elite defense - just not quite as good as the one we have.

Chavis appears washed up now, but he wasn't horrible. The 3rd and Chavis bit us in the arse a number of times, but we also shut down a lot of tough teams. Bama had elite athletes and an elite coach against guys like Johnny Football, but only LSU shut him down (twice). Chavis had some good game plans.
