GotG vol. 2. Not as great on the rewatch.

Leaving the theater I loved it. Rewatched it on DVD last night and was less impressed. Don't get me wrong I loved Kurt Russell. Yondu's arc was great too. I just felt it was loud scene after loud scene, cue random funny moment then repeat. I like the franchise and think the crossover with the avengers will be great.
Long term this may be more forgettable than people think. Sort of like Thor 2 or iron man 3.

So like most of the MCU?

You weren't wrong until you got to Thor 2.
I think that Yondu's arc will stick in people's minds. Thor 2 is extremely forgettable.

I don't feel that way. I thought it was a great continuation of the story of the Guardians. I thought all of the arcs were well done. The only one who didn't have one really was Drax so they used more for comedy relief. It's hard to replicate the charm of the first but I thought it was a great entry to the franchise.

I love the GotG movies but I feel that marvel missed a major opportunity to progress the Thanos arc. I assume they will use Thor Ragnorak to help move that major plot along but I feel like they have been trying to work towards this big end game with Thanos but have contributed very little actual time to it.
Yes they have shown the infinity stones and it seems like Thor is finally figuring out there is a bigger picture. But guardians 2 should have really been used to push him further into the picture.

For me it's the opposite. I walked out the theater very Meh, watching it again at home I enjoyed it alot more.

Agree they missed a chance for more Thanos. For the most part he shows up in brief cameos that don't move things along much. This was a chance to have him more front and center and they didn't. If they don't use him somewhat in Thor there aren't many opportunities left before avengers.
My kids loved GotG 2 and quoted it all night. It was a fine movie and whoever thought of baby Groot is a marketing genius. Every time he's on screen I imagine Disney hearing cash registers dinging more and more.

No. One hour into the movie and I still had no idea what it was trying to do or what the plot was. Generally speaking you want to lay out the plot for the rest of your film in the opening 30 minutes.

I'm as critical of these things as anyone, but GotG films are great fun. You can't take any of these seriously and enjoy them. That's why I'm pretty much limiting to Avengers proper and stuff I'm not invested in - at all - like GotG (or Deadpool).
X-Men and individual heroes I might take too seriously? Hard pass from now on. Why? I'm getting too old for this shite - they're all just fast, random action to entertain the millenials who have the attention spans of gnats.

I may be in the minority with this opinion, but I really find that the majority of these movies in this genre aren't the best on rewatch. It's not that I didn't/don't enjoy them. I just don't tend to rewatch them because I'm not as actively watching the second time and get bored.

Hated it compared to the 1st. They took all the light quirkyness that worked and drove it into the ground. Came off as very try-hard IMO and really detracted from the movie for me. I should watch it again and see if it gets better but I left the theater extremely disappointed.

I found the soundtrack for GotG 2 was nowhere near as good as the first one. That knock it down a bit compared to the first one.

Havent rewatched since the theaters. Will probably do it sometime this weekend.

Not every film is so cookie cutter

It's a fine movie. That's it.
It's cheesy and corny, Pratt couldn't act certain scenes well and they fell flat, it's got a pacing problem and a villain problem, but none of those are so problematic that they make it a bad movie. It's just a fun-ish movie with a good amount of laughs that has a great underlying theme and story that was executed decently.
It is forgettable, but not like Thor 2 forgettable.

This is true. And a very small minority of those films that aren't so cookie cutter are actually good.

All of this. Plus the villain being his father sucked and had nothing to do, like another poster said, with the main storyline of Thanos.
They think we need to have a laugh every 5-10 seconds and that causes them to try too hard and force it.

This and the first are the worst. Hopefully the third is better.
