It's really sad that a police Lieutenant would make a racist joke about killing black people. It's more sad that people reading about the story would defend him.

Since this is a government agency I don't believe they can fire the guy here. He has a right to free speech. Stupid thing to joke about, for sure. But this isn't a private company we are talking about, the police department is a government actor, obviously.
