It was so bad, I don't know what I was thinking. How could they think that was a good movie after production? Pretty much a franchise killer at this point.

I watched it about a month ago. After the first 20 minutes I had to make myself a strong Jack and 7 to keep watching.

That African warlord guy who tells the story about fighting the aliens on the ground for the past 20 years
I wish we could have seen that movie.

i would say it's one of the worst films i've ever seen. not even so bad it's good. just terrible.

The first Independence Day was a product of its time. I don't think that movie is even all that good if you go back and watch it now.

I disagree. I think it still holds up relatively well.
I watched the sequel a couple months back, and it was not very good at all. It took me several viewings to get through the whole thing (watched when I went to bed). Some of it didn't even make sense.

The first was a good movie. Great actors, aliens, good plot that made sense.
This new one was insanely bad. Actors were terrible, too many dumb characters, plot was all over the place and made no sense.
Sad they couldn't understand all they had to do was the same movie as the first on just a grander scale and updated cast with some old characters thrown in.

Sounded amazing and that one scene was better than the entire movie.

I hung on for the first twenty minutes and put an end to it. I expect a prequel to be released in the next five years Independence Day: Reborn.

Just watched it this week too. My two boys fell asleep 30 minutes in. I finished it only to see how bad it could get. Holy crap. Hilliard's son was terrible, Whitmore's daughter was terrible and Liam Hemsworth is the same guy in every movie.
I liked seeing the old characters but that wasn't enough. It felt forced and over the top which I guess they felt they had to. No major star power. Humor was flat too.

I think if it would have been better, then maybe a franchise could have been possible. They just screwed everything up.

They thought it was a good movie because it was a sequel to a popular movie. Hollywood is really as shallow as you believe. That's why I rarely go to the movies.

They could've done a trilogy, with a couple of smaller stories building up to the fact that a larger ship/fleet was en route.
Instead of, HERE IS THE STORY AGAIN XCEPT, OMG, EVERYTHING IS BIGGER.

Your typical sequel (in an expanding list of them) made far too long after the original. They tried to recapture what made the original so beloved, but completely fail because of that.

Battle of Los Angeles was just as bad.
What's funny is that most people don't know Hollywood based that movie of a real event.
Air raid sirens sounded throughout Los Angeles County on the night of 24–25 February 1942. A total blackout was ordered and thousands of air raid wardens were summoned to their positions.
At 3:16 am the 37th Coast Artillery Brigade began firing .50 caliber machine guns and 12.8-pound anti-aircraft shells into the air at reported aircraft; over 1,400 shells would eventually be fired. Pilots of the 4th Interceptor Command were alerted but their aircraft remained grounded. The artillery fire continued sporadically until 4:14 am. The "all clear" was sounded and the blackout order lifted at 7:21 am.
Several buildings and vehicles were damaged by shell fragments, and five civilians died as an indirect result of the anti-aircraft fire: three killed in car accidents in the ensuing chaos and two of heart attacks attributed to the stress of the hour-long action. The incident was front-page news along the U.S. Pacific coast, and earned some mass media coverage throughout the nation.
The Japanese government, after the war ended, declared that they had flown no airplanes over Los Angeles during the war.
Some contemporary ufologists and conspiracy theorists have suggested the targets were extraterrestrial spacecraft.

You mean like where they essentially decide to declare intergalactic war against an unknown enemy because they were late to make final arrangements on their champagne party?

Eat shite. That's movie is awesome.
Will Smith before he was a douche.
Chef Goldbloom in his prime.
One of the what presidential speeches ever.
Randy Quaid before he went full psycho.
Drama, horror, comedy, action all rolled into one.
Great movie.
