One of the first games I remember seeing in Tiger Stadium. Went with my friend and his mom. I recall thinking tie games are stupid.

Beginning of the end for Archer.

Yeah, we had an Ohio hex for a few years. Got beat by Miami of Ohio, Tied Ohio State, Lost to Ohio State. Good teams too - remember those games well.

That game was in Columbus that year.
The year before it was in Tiger Stadium and we played to a 10-10 tie if I remember correctly

The loss to ohio st was on the road. We were up by 111 pts wih 2 seconds left and flucking (not a cuss word) blew the game. Living in va beach, no internet at the time and game being regionally televised elsewhere on abc,I kept waiting for the cnn headline news 19 and 49 minutes after the hour sports updates to get the final score.(remember jerome jarenovich?!?!) Not that I recall much about that day.

quote:Finally someone on this board knows what they're talking about. Except that it was a 13-13 tie. LSU should've won both Ohio St. games but regardless......once that 1988 game was over we all knew at that point that Mike Archer couldn't handle a head coaching job at a major university. And never again was he a head coach again at a school remotely close to LSU in stature.

That game still pisses me off almost 30 years later. All Archer had to do on third down was just plow ahead or hand it off and it was for the most part over because Ohio State had just burned its last time out with like 1: 40 left. Run the ball that takes about 8-10 seconds and burn 40-45 seconds off and then take the safety which would have run off another 8-10 seconds. That would have left OSU with about 40 seconds left before the free kick. I like my chances with 40 seconds and NO T.O' for the other team
Will say this though, Bobby Olive for OSU had a monster game that day.
Got really drunk that night.

same here, lovah. I was living here in N Ga. kept watching the scores on the bottom of abc's screen. couldn't believe we lost after my last glance was us up with 1:45 remaining.
Jerome jurinovich and van earl wright.
Jerome is on fox sports south braves pre and post game now.

Will never forget it. We were in complete control.

When Norwood went down the game changed. LSu wouldve won that game had Norwood not been injured. He was dominating the line of scrimmage and his replacement got owned.

The game the year before was a terrible coaching job by Archer.
Posted on 8/29/17 at 6:26 pm to Tiger1988
The end of that game was full of suck.
