Picking Bama and FSU into playoff preseason

Seems like a lot of people are predicting these two teams into the playoff even after playing each other.
Doesn't that mean the loser goes 12-0 the rest of the season? Seems like that's a huge ask no matter who the team is. Of course it can happen but shouldn't you play the odds this early?

Either Bama or FSU is going to land that important quality loss in week 1. Can't underestimate the importance of a quality loss.

Week 1 losses for big schools like FSU and Bama are essentially useless. Might as well be a bye week for those teams

This post is dumb, unless you already have accepted the fact that Bama runs the table in the SEC. poor LSU loony toon arse fanboys.

A quality loss hasn't gotten 1 team into the playoffs in 3 years. I'm not saying it can't happen, but a 2 loss team has not made it in, while multiple teams with a "bad" loss have. OSU lost to VT, MSU lost to Nebraska, Clemson lost to Pitt, Bama lost to a 4 loss OM in 2014.
Will be interesting to see it play out sometime, where a 1 loss conference champion is up against a 2 loss conference champion who has a huge OOC loss like this. If Oklahoma State is 12-1, with a loss @ Texas (just an example), would you be comfortable putting a 2 loss FSU in over them if FSU had a loss to Bama and a loss to Miami (just for conversation purposes).

Everyone that's made the playoffs so far has had zero or 1 loss

I could easily see a scenario where the loser of that game drops another game along the way, finished the regular season 10-2, 7-1 in conference, wins their division, goes on to win the conference championship and finish 11-2, and then makes it into the playoff.
A 2-loss team in the playoff is going to happen eventually.
A 2-loss team in the playoff is going to happen eventually.

I agree, but we have now seen a 1 loss non-conference champ beat out a 2 loss conference champ (OSU had really good wins last year to go with that one road loss).

The point is the loss in the end eventually helps the resume instead of hurting it, if you're in the hunt in the end. I never said the entire season doesn't matter, only that losing this single game means nothing in the long run because big schools get the benefit of the doubt with early losses that smaller schools don't.
This isn't the SECr, keep your butthurtness to a normal level

Here's the real question, if both teams make it to the playoffs, does the committee set it up where they play in the semi-finals to prevent a rematch for the title? It'd be a fun trivia question one day if Bama and FSU started the season in Atlanta and finished it in Atlanta.

Only if the losing team runs the table. Say what you want, but if Alabama or Florida State loses that game, then proceeds to reel off 12 straight wins, they deserve a spot in the playoffs.

But it's an odd thing when you may have a team like Oklahoma state who can win their first 12 games and drop the last game of the season to someone like oklahoma and doesn't make the playoffs.

You still have a margin of error with an early loss tho, whenever a late loss completely wiped out your chances

I think everyone agrees with that point, but the loser of FSU/Bama would have to go 12-0, and I don't know many people who would bet on any team to do that. It's hard with 19-22 year olds

Bama could lose and you know it doesnt matter.
They are the only team in college football that has to have 2 losses to be out of consideration. And even then........they will make a case for them to still be the best team.

But the point is that preseason people are saying they will be 2 of the 4. I agree there is a shot, but I don't think it is great as a 2 loss conference champ. As I said above, PSU was in a similar boat last year (not the same as the loss to Pitt wasn't a good OOC loss and they got blown out by Michigan), and got passed up by a 1 loss non champ (fairly or unfairly)

Which is crazy because it used to knock out FSU or Miami back in the 90's or Notre Dame and Michigan after week 1 back in the 80's.
