Every fricking FB mom is on suicide watch cause their kids will be at school for the eclipse. FB riddled with "do's & don'ts" & "what u need to know" & "I looked at the eclipse in 1957 & now I can't see shite" stories.
Is there something that makes an eclipse extra scary? Or is it just "duh, you can't stare at the sun u fricking idiot"

staring at the sun

It's rude to stare. The sun doesn't like it, especially when it's trying to go behind the moon to change clothes.

My favorite is the "make sure to keep your pets in doors because they WILL suffer permanent retinal damage by looking at the eclipse."

I've been curious about this myself. I assumed that most people would think the sun would be safe to stare at during the eclipse when it's really

There is no difference in the damage that can occur. The difference is that during the eclipse, you'll be able to tolerate staring at the sun for much longer than you ordinarily could.

It's totally different. With the right eye protection, you can essentially stare at an eclipse forever. Forever. Forever's gonna start tonight. Forever's gonna start tonight. Once upon a time I was falling in love. But now I'm only falling apart. And there's nothing I can do. A total eclipse of the heart

The only time it is safe to look at the sun is during the 2 min 40 sec of total coverage that is only possible in the small portion of the country that will have that chance during the eclipse.

So after u look away, instead of seeing bright dots, we'll see bright circles? Cool

I'm pissed at these schools right now because the Dallas school district didn't order them, but instead went to Lowe's, Home Depot, and everywhere else and bought them out on the glasses. I can't find them anywhere and they all say teachers came in and bought thousands of them. The kids going blind would be a plus for me.
