NBC Sports Gold Worth Every Penny

There's been a lot of NBC hate lately for the way they changed up the Premier League coverage this year. Here's a little love for it.
I understand the idea of making people pay $50 for the Premier League Pass is no doubt a greedy move by NBC. But for what the plan offers, it's been money well spent so far for me. The app is great on iPhone/iPad & Apple TV. It's not just highlights, replays, and shitty live games no one wants to see. They have tons of little short videos of classic matches and rivalries, match previews, etc etc.
Last night I watched a 5 minute clip of highlights from the 2004-05 Spurs/Chelsea match at White Hart Lane that wound up 4-4. Next there was clip dedicated to the Keane v Vieira rivalry. The production value is fantastic and there's a ton of content uploaded every day. Really cool stuff. A years worth of solid, in-depth Premier League coverage from a network that knows how to do it right is worth 50 bucks to me. Not saying it's the best option for everyone, but I love it.

you don't get access to every game, right? only a couple of games a weekend?

yea whats the point of paying extra for an inferior product to what you had before for next to nothing.

i don't understand why they'd limit it to select games. i'd happily pay for an a la carte premier league pass if i had access to every game (even if i didn't have to pay for this same service last season).

All it does is push people to find other means of watching games either for free or much cheaper

Every game that's not on any standard cable or satellite package is on the app from what i understand. All the extra stuff you get is really great and should't be underestimated when weighing whether or not the $50 is worth it to you. If you're a fan of the league in general rather than a specific team, like me, it's absolutely perfect.

i thought that only applied to cord cutters. i was under the impression if you had a cable subscription you got access to every single game.

I agree it sucks to pay versus not paying, but how is the product inferior.
I haven't signed up so im legitimately asking.

yes you get all of them.

If you want the comprehensive slate of matches that has been available through the NBC Sports apps in the past, you'll have to pay for both the new subscription and a cable plan.
You had to have a cable plan last year as well. So that part isn't new. The only new part is the $50 charge.

Bc you don't get every match
I tried last week using the NBC app on my fire tv and it told me I had to pay to have access to certain matches. When last year I could watch them all.

but you do. I just quoted an article stating as much. Unless, of course, the article is mistaken.

I literally tried this weekend. Tried to watch the Palace game and it said I had to subscribe to Sports Gold.
Found it on my IPTV no problem tho.

Right, because it wasn't on a network.
You have to have a cable or satellite package AND Gold to get all the matches now.
They just found a way to monetize the Live Extra matches after seasons of giving them away for free.
It's like NBA League Pass. The games you get on your normal cable/satellite package are blacked out (national and local in the NBA's case), but you get everything else for a flat fee.

right, you have to now pay for it.
You said what is the point of PAYING for an INFERIOR product.
I agreed it sucks paying for it when last year it came standard with your cable, but once you pay for it, how is inferior to last year?
Maybe I'm not making my myself clear.

Bc the original product was free

nevermind. i just don't think you are following me.
You should have written "what is the point of paying for something that used to be free". When you called it inferior you made it sound like the pay version did not have the same content as last year which is not the case.

Price and Inferiority/Superiority are mutually exclusive things... It's possible to have a far better product and charge less, and it's possible to have a shittier product and charge more (granted not a very good business model).
Just because you're paying for it doesn't make the product worse
