Should the Allies not have done that?

What institution? What institution are you trying to protect that needs the confederate symbols?

This argument is so stale. Moving a statue doesn't mean you are forgetting history.

The preserved concentration camps are reminders that Nazis engaged in ethnic cleansing, and where innocent lives were lost because of their "inferior genes," which is what the Neo-Nazis and Cofederate-flag wielding members of Saturday's protests are still advocating for.

I have no objection to moving statutes to battlegrounds and cemeteries or whatever. I care about "what's next."
I don't want them sandblasting an amazing relief off of Stone Mountain, or going after founders, etc.
If our society generally doesn't want confederate emblems representing our town squares anymore - fine. But fringe liberals aren't doing it to "ease the pain of people of color," they're doing it because it's the next rung on the ladder to tearing down the entire institution.
This isn't a slippery slope argument, I don't think there is public support for the fringe (at least at present). But it's confederate monuments, then founders. Then once the founders are pieces of shite, we can more easily question how they set this country up. Then we're really fricked.
Thank you. People saying it's just about removing "offensive statues" are completely naive.
I think there are varying degrees of useful pawns in this plan as well from college kids to scummy politicians seeking to capitalize on the hot topic of the day.

We don't need the symbols. I'm not sure how you got that considering I led with, essentially, "I don't care if they take them down."
But if the standard for removal is "did they support slavery or own slaves" that carries over to founders. At that point, why wouldn't we shut down Monticello? Or remove Madison statues? And if Madison is such a shitty human being, why are we going to continue to act like the BOR is some sacrosanct document?

You can't see the forest through the trees.

It's the recreation or manipulation of historical facts and figures that is the issue at hand.

If someone gave me the deal of "we remove every confederate statute/symbol and put it in a museum, and that ends all of our vengeance on historical emblems relating to slavery" I'd take it in an instant.
I don't give a shite about the confederacy, I just want the items of historical significance preserved rather than destroyed, and I want the madness to stop.

Okay I follow you. I feel like a fair point has been made on the Confederate symbols. The founders are untouchable though. I would gladly protest the removal of anything to do with the founders.

Talk to the educational textbook writers. They cherry pick history constantly.

Why? They were slave owning traitors to their country.

People are fickle though. At that point (playing devil's advocate now) haven't we set up a pass/fail system for retention of statues/whatever that the framers are going to fail?
FWIW I think there are compelling arguments as to why there should be resistance when it comes to founders, but society doesn't work that way. It made all the sense in the world to recognize gay unions, but now we're fricking fighting a war about pronouns.

I haven't seen where they demonize historical figures for political purposes...yet.

Pull down the statues of the politicians that were leaders of the Confederacy. The military statues and memorials to the men and women who served should stay. They honored those folks that gave their lives for those four years.
When the war started they were just trying to win the next battle. Politics were probably not the most important thing on their minds.

I've said many times that this is only the beginning. Statues of Jefferson and Washington are going to be targeted soon.
It is the beginning. The same people pushing for the removal are the same people pushing open borders. Start with one section of history and take it away then they will focus on the founders. It's nothing more than the war on sovereignty.
And better believe those liberals will be adamnt that's not true then later down the road make an excuse for it.

Traitors lose conflicts. Revolutionaries win them.

Well that's because the legal groups fighting for them would have lost their jobs if they hadn't moved on to trans rights.
