People in the USA shouldn't pull down the Confederate statues until all of the Adolf Hitler statues are pulled down here in the USA and in Germany.

That seem fair?

Truth is, for the people claiming "history" being the reason for keeping confederate statues and waiving the flag, countries generally like to forget history that is a black eye to that country.

Does that mean we need to take the slavery statue down in Charleston, SC? Certainly you would consider that to be a black eye to our country.

Why are the statues and issue NOW and weren't from 1866-2017?

Quite a few didn't exist until the middle of the 20th century. Some were a big middle finger to the civil rights movement.

Odd phenomenon roughly 100 years after the fact.

There was a statue of Saddam built in the 80s or 90s. We tore that down and now look at Iraq.

About 20 years ago I read a book (sorry I can't remember the book's title) that when men become women and women become men and history can be changed then that is a sign of the coming of the end of the world.

At the time I laughed at the absurdity of the statement.

Now it's happening.

There could be statues of Hitler and Nazi flags in Germany if Germany had the same freedom of speech rights like we do.

I'm still waiting for someone to show me in the Constitution where people have a right not to be offended.

You don't hear Germans clamoring to put up statues of Hitler or being able to use a swastika.
Can you provide a link to the "Put up new Confederate Statue" movement is in the USA?

If veterans of the union held no ill will towards their southern brethren, why should a 2017er?
because look at the Northern cities after the Civil War. The Union had no qualms about oppressing African Americans.

As the Third Reich collapsed around him Albert Speer asked Hitler if the available supply of nitrates should be used to make fertilizer for the 1946 planting season.

No, Hitler said. The German people didn't deserve that. He directed that the available nitrates be used to produce more ammunition.

Speer ignored those orders.

More likely that every single one of us has had a slave in our family tree than every single one of us having a slave owner in the tree.

Along about 1905 a move to return captured rebel battle flags to the South was strongly opposed by Union Army veterans and the veterans group The Grand Army of the Republic.

Those that fired upon Old Glory were without honor and cannot be rehabilitated.

Seems to be it's more healthy, and likely more important for future generations, to actually remember such things.
