I must say, the South is a better representation of America.

I'm a Yankee by birth from New York. I came to study at LSU because my wife is from the area and was doing graduate school there. I really enjoyed my time in Louisiana. Passing through the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina one thing I noticed was nicely paved interstates, the scenery is better kept up, and there wasn't as many bums where we stopped.
Stop for a quick bite at a random Taco Bell in Alabama last week. Most of the workers seemed to have a good work ethic and they acted professional. The people eating inside pretty much all looked like hard working blue collar people that are enjoying a well deserved break and lunch. I don't see this up north. Not saying there aren't hard workers up north and there are no lazy scum down here, but this place has literally shown me the southeastern US (ironically the former Confederacy) is the backbone of America.
Generally seems to be hard working conservative and Christian patriots. Sad that I'm leaving the South but I look forward to coming back down. MAGA!

Jesus Christ, it's 2017.
When they said the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming - over there - over there - a CENTURY ago...
Were they just talking about Northeasterners?
Oxford English Dictionary:
Yankee: A person who lives in or is from the USA.
Since the war ended and every state became part of the USA again...unless some people don't think they live in the USA...everyone is a Yankee.
There isn't a single poster on this board who was born in 1860 or before. Not a single one. Those are the only people who can claim they aren't a Yankee - during those few secession years.

Did calling myself a Yankee seriously just trigger you? I didn't realize it was a micro aggression. You must have had Melissa Click as a professor at Mizzou.

No. Taco Bell shouldn't be the standard for measuring anything. Also, I assume you were nowhere near Prichard.

The most racist people I ever encountered were in Boston.

That's the point. Where I'm from, Taco Bell is staffed by scumbag thugs who are probably on parole. This one had employees that were really young and are spending their summers working. Better than the mainline spoiled brats.
Also they got my order right on the first try, a big improvement!
And I can't recall. It was somewhere between Mobile and Montgomery. I really like Alabama, from what I've seen.

This isn't unique to where you're from. Congrats on stopping at a serviceable Taco Bell, though.

See more of it. There are nice pockets, and the coast isn't bad, but Alabama has shitty areas like every other state. Lots of them, too.

Holy shite. I'm from Lexington, KY and most fast food restaurants are staffed by high school and college kids. Outside of Lexington, and other college towns in the south, they're all staffed by high school dropouts and welfare trash.
I've lived all over the country (KY, VA, CA, TX, GA, AZ, PA, NY) and the south is no more representative than any other area of the country.

No part of the US is a better representation than the other. What makes America great is that it is different in so many ways.

If you are referring to N, S, E, W, then the south is 1/4 a representation of America

Day before yesterday, I was in Erie,Pa.. I was delivering shelving to a (Boscov's ?) department store.
The guys that unloaded my truck were no different from blue collar Southern Guys. Same jokes, same good attitudes, friendly as could be. They just had a different accent.

You talk to anyone from Britain or South America...
And they all say, "you Yanks this and you Yanks that" and they don't care if you're from South Carolina or New Englad...Georgia or New York.
Nobody says: "You Yanks this and you Rebels that."
Because we are not living in 1865. Yankee means American. Period, by the entire world. So unless you're a foreigner living in Mississippi, you are a Yankee.

I'm glad Abe Lincoln got what what he deserved at the play. He had that bullet coming to him for a long time.
How's that for "Yankee"?
