When the President of the most powerful nation in the history of man says he is considering "military options" when he is asked about a country he is making a threat.
uh what if they asked him "Mr. President what military options do we have in Venezuela?" or something similar?

IB Free has been a little bit too trigger happy with Trump a lot these days and proceeding to bash him for anything he really doesn't like.
Shoot first, ask questions later.

if we do anything in Venezuela, i will be pretty fricking pissed off.

quote:The National Security Act of 1947 I believe makes that section of the constitution basically null and void. I'm all for changing that but as it stands now the president can do whatever he wants with the military for up 30 or 90 days or something like without even bothering to talk to congress.
Article I, Section 8, Clause 11 of the U.S. Constitution grants Congress the power to declare war. The President, meanwhile, derives the power to direct the military after a Congressional declaration of war from Article II, Section 2, which names the President Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

He was just asked about the situation in Venezuela and responded that he has not ruled out military options.
What business is it of ours what those socialist idiots do in Venezuela??
I don't care one little bit if the country descends into perpetual civil war. Not a dollar should go there and certainly not a drop of American blood should be shed there.

A proper answer would be "I don't see an American threat from Venezuela."

Who is the idiot that down voted that post??
Posted on 8/11/17 at 5:45 pm to SlowFlowPro
I didn't hear any threat to Venezuela.
Posted on 8/11/17 at 5:46 pm to I B Freeman
I suppose you did not watch the press conference. He did not threaten Venezuela. He was asked what options we have.
He said we will protect the security of the US and our allies. He said that all options are available and we have military options to deal with any country or security threat.
We should have all options diplomatic and military on the table to deal with any crisis or security threat. He did not say anything was imminent or being considered. He said all options were on the table.

Yep.
To the beset of my memory, Trump has never truly taken any option off the table for whatever he's dealing in until the matter itself is closed. That's always been how he operates.
But still I agree that military options for Venezuela is unwarranted beyond doing everything we can to prevent it from spreading beyond their borders as we don't want illegal immigration getting worse as Mexico keeps the parade of illegal immigration from south america flowing to the the United States.

What I don't get, is that we were all against Hillary because she was a war monger, yet here is Trump maybe getting us involved in not one (North Korea), not two (Venezuela) but three (Iran) possible military conflicts. I would like a little more tact and diplomacy before we start pulling out the military card.

If Putin was asked about the "situation" in the USA and responded "I have not ruled out military options", would that be a threat???

This is what he said you idiot
"We have many options for Venezuela, including a possible military option, if necessary"
If necessary

If Venezuela truly collapses and South America takes the brunt of it, it's pretty fricking possible we will see a concentrated effort at a rise in illegal immigration from there.
frick that noise.

What he meant was clear---we are going to intervene in Venezuela some way or another and we might intervene militarily.
Why do we get ourselves in these situations?
He could have just said "I feel for the people of Venezuela that oppose that socialist dictator"

You are becoming unhinged

No if you are dealing with a problem and limit your options then you are in a worse bargaining position than if you leave your options on the table.
I see no reason where we would invade Venezuela or take military action there. I dont think trump really does either unless the place went into a civil war that threatened the us security such as if a civil war started and a immigrant wave headed this way such as Syria and we had to go in and set up a safe zone for some reason to protect the innocent and avoid destabilization of central or South America.
