Huffington Post. This automation shite is getting out of control.

Its not happening this fast.

The world is not going to end up like the terminator.

Its going to create new jobs and push people to new areas of industry.

Its going to be a slow process.

That's the only part of your post that I believe you have correct.

AI is in its absolute infancy and it's already changing the face of modern business. And it is not far off from completely revolutionizing our capacity to automate common tasks (check out The Master Algorithm by Domingos). Even if the rate of development slows significantly, the rate of impact on society will be extremely rapid.

Yes some new jobs will be created (see my example with the lawyer quality checker). But it seems very unlikely that the new jobs created will outpace the jobs destroyed.

This.

Trucks will still need a human engineer like a train does. Someone will have to be in the truck incase of computer failure or mechanical problems.

If a McDonald's automates, It'll still need an IT guy and a mechanic.

This is probably the ideal situation, but then I find it odd that so much focus is on manufacturing jobs and bringing them, when technology has supplanted more manufacturing jobs than anything else.

In other words, I think you're right, but our priorities are misplaced to maximize this.
