Tailgating at NRG

Their website says lots won't open until 4 hours before kickoff? Does anyone know of any surrounding areas to get started at around 8am? We will only have two tents setup, any surrounding business close to the stadium that will let us setup?

There isn't a lot to do around the stadium unless this has changed since LSU/Wisconsin. We took the tram in for some late tailgating after a solid day of pre-gaming. Prepare for clown car car conditions in the tram.

Hahaha man, I swear there is a post like this every year (since we have been opening there and playing bowl games). As mentioned, the "surrounding areas" aren't your safest places. There will be tailgating going on welllllll before the "4 hours before kickoff". I wouldn't worry too much about it. Also, more info and details will be shared closer to game day.

so where will this tailgating be occurring well before the 4 hours.... I've seen a ton of posts like this as well, but have yet to really have the question answered.

Party in Midtown, go to your car for your supplies and jump on the rail about 4.5 hours before kick.
Or get on the rail, exit at Hermann Park, drink there starting at daybreak and get back on the rail to go to stadium.

Well, I know I personally tailgated for most of the day for the TTU bowl game in the blue lots. For the Wisc. game a couple years ago, we tailgated in one of the ball rooms at the crowne plaza.. There will be stuff...

Can you take full ice chests on the tram to the stadium?
Also, assuming you need tickets to ride the tram, can you purchase them prior to gameday?

Oh yea... It wasn't my personal tailgate, but a large company's. So there was a mini stage and shite. There were a bunch of others around as well with those travel trailers and stuff.

Tailgate area
So I just found this. Maybe this HEB tailgate headquarters will open early and you can put up whatever...they don't have info on it, but that's what I would assume

Tickets to get on the tram are like $2 if I remember correctly and they weren't even checking them. You can purchase at the stops.

Hmmm... that whole block that the HEB tailgate thing is occupying is the Crowne Plaza... who knows, maybe they have it booked out?

NRG Tailgating
It appears that HEB is just a game sponsor and will be "judging" tailgating during game day. They don't have a specific tailgating location. The link also has the NRG tailgate policy.

Just kinda seems like something will be going on, or this will be an area for it since the logo is covering a clearly defined section.

I would just suggest posting-up a local bar, drinking & eating there, take an Uber to the stadium...and live to tailgate another day. The surrounding area sucks, and having your own car there BLOWS...at least that's what it looked like judging from the absolute shitshow that was leaving NRG after the Wisconsin game. Then again, even taking public transportation sucked balls, so maybe having your own car was better. Hopefully, they are more prepared for the game this year.

Looks to me that they wanted to get the South Loop and Main Street intersection in the map, but instead of having a giant empty space, they slapped an HEB logo in there.

well that's misleading, but makes sense I guess

In the past, Parking Lot did not open until 4 hours before game time. This is a policy at NRG.

True, Check NRG website about tailgating.
