the show doesn't try to be funny 100% of the time. The therapist stuff wasn't meant to be funny
I agree. But in the past when they were being not funny or dramatic it was building to something. It served a purpose. Like Rick's speech at Bird Persons wedding. Or the black guy's speech at Christmas.
What was the point of the therapy session? Can you compare it to another scene in the series? When else have they done something like that with no end game and no comedic elements?
Like I said earlier, if that therapy was setting up something then it would've been a solid part of the episode. Like Rick killing the therapist or Morty flipping out. But it was just straighttuo watching the Sanchez family in therapy. No character development, no overall plot tie in, nothing

It didn't even make sense in the plot of the episode.
He turns himself into a pickle to avoid therapy and then he fights his way back just to go to the therapy?
And they make a point the entire therapy session to discuss Beth's naivity and inability to distrust her father, but she brought the syringe with her, so obviously she doesn't trust him and knows exactly what in the syringe.
I mean the whole plot structure makes no sense.
And Goldenfold eating poop? What was that about?
The writing hasn't been witty or smart the last two episodes. It's just been bad writing. From plot structure to joke development, it's amateur bullshite with no attention to detail.
And this show was built on Scifi adventures of Rick and Morty and attention to detail. They've abandoned both of those things now.
I just rewatched the episode also and every scene with the therapist is just exposition explaining the nature of the relationships of the characters. Again, what the frick was the point of that?
