Excitement Level Now vs 2012-2016

My excitement level in late August 2011 was sky high. I couldn't wait for the first game. The prospect of a passing QB and a great team was awesome. Since then for obvious reasons I haven't really cared as much and I just expected disappointment. This year I feel different. I know we are probably a 9-3 team give or take 1 either way. The team has weaknesses and depth issues and the schedule is tough. But the thought of a new offensive game plan week to week excites me. The improvement in the 2nd year of Arranda makes me optimistic even with the attrition from last year. We have a 5th year senior QB who won't be all-SEC but should be better than almost anything we have seen lately. I'm excited for the first time in a long time.

The day we cut miles loose gave me something to look forward to. Everything 1/9/12 and I'm sucked the life out of me. Just wasn't that fun anymore. I was so deflated walking out of Lambeau. My cousin (lsu alum, season ticket holder, Taf member) and I cheered for us to lose to auburn. It was a means to an end. The fact that it was a mismanaged clock was so poetic. It was time for a change. I'm back to excitement and anticipation.

I'll just say that the longest offseason of my life was by far from 1/9/12 to the time we played our first game against North Texas in 2012. I just wanted to score a damn TD again after hearing all that crap about us not crossing the 50 yard line until late 4th quarter. Miles was exposed that night. I had high hopes for 2012, but since then it hasn't felt the same. I wasn't watching awesome athletes with the "it" factor. In 2014 especially, it was just like watching glorified high school football with the likes of Jennings. The "it" factor was gone, and the magic was gone. The crumble in 2015 signified the inevitable, but not pulling the trigger just delayed the inevitable further and squandered a season.

What's so funny about a 9-3 prediction? 9-3 is a very real possibility.

I'm thinking 9-3 as well unless we have major injuries or Canada doesn't live up to the hype. I think we lose @Florida, @Alabama & one of these (@Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas).

wrong. Sometimes short term pain must be endured for the long term betterment of the program.

Miles had a very good run but the decline since 2011-12 was substantial and after the Wisconsin debacle, it was clear Miles had to go.
A loss to Auburn would hasten that, and enable us to more quickly right the ship, so I was happy it happened. Many, many others feel the same, but aren't going to admit it.

By the way, I felt exactly the same about Johnny Jones. He was failing here, and we needed new blood, so I was pulling for an implosion last year. We got it, and got a dynamite new coach and we're headed the right direction.

Again, I'll trade short term pain for long term gain any day, not just for LSU athletics, but for many things in life.

People have trouble getting past his freshman year, but Jarrett Lee had a very good senior year, up until Bama when got put on the shelf.

Lee's 2011 stats:

104-167
62.3%
1306 yards
7.8 yards/attempt
14 TD
3 INT
152.0 Rating (highest in the SEC)

I'll take those numbers any day of the week.

No matter how much I still hate the O hire and don't think he's going to bring us back to elite status, I would never cheer against LSU. Yeah, losing to Auburn pushed Les out, but it also gave an unqualified failure of a HC a chance to take someone else's structure, put a fresh coat of paint on it, and sell the former person's product. I wanted Les out just as much as the next guy, but firing him mid season last year might cost us a lot more than hanging onto him until the end of the season would have.

I am more optimistic about Etling than Lee. He is more composed.

Lee had a career passing efficiency against Alabama of like 60. His last game against them was just as bad as his first game against them.

2011 no one I knew was pumped. Dickhead was in trouble with the law right before Oregon game. I had free tickets to the game free trip no one thought it worth it to go see LSU get destroyed

It's funny cause 95% of this board is already making excuses for Coach O to frick this up. 9-3 would have been time to fire the coach the last ten years...now it's expected.

fricking joke this fanbase is. A fricking joke

Any LSU fan who cheers for LSU players to lose after all the effort they give to LSU is a D-bag and they smell no matter how much perfume they apply.

I'm excited that college football is back. It's hard for me to get excited about our team right now. I really think we are headed to some dark days.

What's crazy is... if Les was still coaching here we would be expecting a 10-2 or better season. If we would of hired Jimbo I think expectations would be the same. The fact that people are now lowering it to 9-3 or 9-4 says a lot about the HC hire.
