I liked it too but then again I didn't read the books at all and I like both idris and mcconaughey. I definitely understand those that read the books not liking it though.

I've come to realize that anything people like manator and breesus say is a trick of the devil trying to lead me off the path

It is probably better than the books.
That isn't saying much.
Under the Dome was too.

I liked it.
I went in with really low expectations thanks mostly to this board and was pleasantly surprised.
Was it the movie of the year...no...but it was a hell of a lot better then things like Atomic Blonde...it actually had a story and great acting.

You can just get fricked, buddy.

To be honest, some of the books weren't great.
Book one was very meh. Song of Susannah was pointless and a chore to get through.
wolves of the calla wasn't epic either

They have forgotten the faces of their fathers.

Agree. When the box office comes in and they start making the second one, I'll be happy.
They did well with the source material and stayed as faithful as they could and still wrap it up into one movie.
Many, many places to go from here.
This movie really doesn't deserve the hate from the purists. They just don't understand or can't be convinced that this is the next trip through the tower. Different but the same.
Man in black works for the crimson king, who by the way, hasn't made an appearance.
Consider me pleased with an open mind.

I've decided to retire from the board. I don't like who I am when I post here. This board feeds my negative emotions. I'm trying to be a better person and can't do it posting here. This post serves as a reminder to myself to not post because I am better than the person I become when I post on this website. Good luck and goodnight to you all.

I don't know if you've been paying attention, but the box office isn't coming in on this one. So we're likely not getting the tv series addition and a sequel

Yes I have been paying attention. To be honest, I never believed that the series was going to happen. However, I think that a sequel will happen.
Time will tell.

It's looking like this movie is gonna make less than 50 mil at the us box office. What leads you to believe a sequel is likely?

I've never read the books or know anything about this series. But if Idris Elba is in I'm down

Eh. Hope I guess. As I said...time will tell. I don't know if you've ever read the books and don't care.
There's a lot of possibilities with this title. Either a continuation or a reboot could happen. This is the first weekend. As I said...we shall see. But I agree that it doesn't look good so far.
I'm pulling for it. It's a good concept and a good story if told well. The people who have read the books will understand and appreciate it. But out of a hundred people, every one of them would probably have a different direction and vision of how to tell this story.
This is the kind of story that the perspective of the writers and director is singular and would meet opposition mostly because it doesn't follow the books point by point in a linear fashion. Also, the movie can't have a resolution in two or three hours if the book purists have their wish.
As you will see soon in 'It' in September, it will take more movies to complete the story. But 'It' conveniently was split into two eras and told in the same story. This is not the case with the Dark Tower. The tale was always going to be long and difficult to film.
It was impossible to tell the story in one movie. But I applaud the foundations that were laid. They did very well with the limitations before them. There were several very good performances.
Roland would have said the words that Elba did.
I'm ok with that.
