Also, since the itching is due to your body releasing histamine as part of the immune system response, soaking the bites in hot water will help to bring some relief. The body produces only so much histamine at a time, so the heat will force more histamine to be released. It will make you go cross-eyed but you'll get a few hours relief until the body can build up more. Then you just soak it again.

Those suck. At Scout Camp TL James near Ruston many eons ago, we had to dust our socks and stuff with sulfur to keep the bastards away.
