If George Jones or Hank Williams sang that song it would hands down the greatest country song of all-time?
T or F
I say true. Criminally underrated song.

I'd vote for a George Jones version for being one of the greatest country-western songs of all time. That man could twist and turn a lyric until it cried.

I've always really liked that song.
And think Doug Stone did an awesome job, but you may be onto something.

Doug Stone with an incredible one hit (?) wonder. He write it?
To answer OP George Jones yes. It would be up there with "he Stopped Loving.....".
His late 1980's voice could still have pulled that off well. But he was easing into "National Treasure Status" and doing silly shite like High Tech Redneck. But he was George fricking Jones. He can pick what he wants.
I recall The Longhorn in Toomey when thinking of that song. Much grab assing and tongue wrasslin' to that song in 1992.
