Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, and Derek Carr are ahead of Brees...
I think that has to do with three straight 7-9 seasons more than anything.

quote:
1. New England Patriots: Go ahead — ding Tom Brady for his unspectacular arm strength, subpar athleticism or say he's profited from unprecedented coaching continuity and brilliance. But does a tenable argument that he's not the best in the business right now — and forevermore — honestly remain? Don't kid yourself. And after he played meaningful snaps effectively in 2016, Jimmy Garoppolo's presence makes any notion that another team has a better QB situation virtually indefensible.
2. Green Bay Packers: When it comes to pure arm talent, atomic clock accuracy, the ability to leverage mobility in or out of the pocket and execute at crunch time, is anyone better than two-time MVP and Hail Mary maestro Aaron Rodgers? He probably needs more rings to cement himself on the quarterbacking Mount Rushmore, but it can be argued no more physically talented passer has played the position. Watch Brett Hundley in preseason — he might be the kind talent the Packers can spin off for a high draft pick down the road.
3. Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan was dialed in from start to finish in 2016 — at least until the final quarter of that last game anyway. Still, the league MVP had one of the finest individual seasons of any quarterback in league history, taking a meteoric jump on his ninth year. The question now, was it an aberration, or can he keep it up?
4. Pittsburgh Steelers: Everything appears to be in place for Ben Roethlisberger to put together an MVP season ... assuming he doesn't miss four games with ... something. Landry Jones is the backup, but rookie Josh Dobbs could push him.
5. Seattle Seahawks: Statistically, 2016 was Russell Wilson's worst year, largely because he was fighting knee and ankle issues that limited his mobility behind a line that got him sacked 41 times. Still, for a guy who wasn't highly regarded entering the NFL five years ago, he's blossomed into one of its best passers. Wilson has a great arm, uses surreal escapability to sidestep rushers and extend plays rather than bail out of them, always keeps his eyes downfield and rarely makes a killer mistake.
6. Oakland Raiders: Derek Carr's steady, incremental improvement culminated last year with an MVP-caliber season highlighted by 28 TD passes against just six INTs. Now that he's averaging $25 million annually, that upward arc needs to continue.
7. New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees has thrown for 5,000 yards five times. The rest of the world has done it four times, and no one else has managed it twice. And even at 38, he shows little sign of slowing. Sure, the offense and playing indoors have helped him pile up huge numbers. But don't discredit Brees' body of work — it doesn't exist without his moxie, brilliance and precision, all despite a steady churn of players around him.

Look, Matt Ryan had a helluva year last year but I'd put it in this order:
1) Pats - Brady
2) Packers - Rodgers
3) Saints - Brees
4) Falcons - Ryan
5) Steelers - Roth
6) Raiders - Carr
7) Meh....

I don't understand the love for Roethlisberger > Brees, its been like this for the past 3 years or so:
2014:
Ben: 67.1%, 4952 yards, 8.14 YPA, 32 TDs, 9 INTs, 103.3 Rating
Brees: 69.2%, 4952 yards, 7.51 YPA, 33 TDs, 17 INTs, 97.0 Rating
2015:
Ben: 68.0%, 3938 yards, 8.4 YPA, 21 TDs, 16 INTs, 94.5 Rating - missed 4
Brees: 68.3%, 4870 yards, 7.77 YPA, 32 TDs, 11 INTs, 101. Rating - missed 1
2016:
Ben: 64.4%, 3819 yards, 7.5 YPA, 29 TDs, 13 INTs, 95.4 Rating - missed 2
Brees: 70.0%, 5208 yards, 7.74 YPA, 37 TDs, 15 INTs, 101.7 Rating
yeah okay.

I suppose USA Today has never heard of regression to the mean. That's what Ryan is in for this year.

The difference is Steelers compared to Saints. One organization is a darling and one isn't.

Big Ben underachieved last year with the amount of talent he has around him. Solid WR (including top 2 WR in the NFL), arguably the best all around RB in the NFL, and a solid OL.

Brady has the accolades. Thus, he deserves immense credit and if you want to call him "the best", that's fine. But it isn't as if NE has struggled mightily when he's had to miss games. They were 11-5 when he missed the 2008 season and in 4 games without him in 2016, NE went 3-1 with two guys who had never started an NFL game.
To me though, Rodgers is the best. He's the guy I'm taking if I could only choose one to QB my team.
Ryan had a great year. If you want to rank him ahead of Brees based on last season, I understand the argument. However, Ryan certainly had the better team around him.
Carr and Wilson? Give me a break. Good young players, sure. But they still don't hold a candle to Brees right now, especially Wilson.
Rothlisberger can't stay healthy. He's only played a full season 3 times in 13 years. Availability has to count for something, right? Hell, even his best year doesn't compare to Brees's worst year as a Saint.
Brees gets knocked because the Saints are the worst team of that group (record-wise from last season). However, Brees is WAY down the list of being to blame for that.

I agree, Brees would probably be ranked higher had we achieved a better record but our defense has sucked bigly the last 3 years we're talking about QBs and Brees is out there setting records at the QB position. He plays the position as well or better than the top 3 guys on this ranking.
Also, what has Roethlisberger done to supplant Wilson? Wilson's one of the best and most efficient QBs to exist SMH

I don't understand why Carr is being looked at so highly. He's been in the NFL for 3 seasons and has had one good year and another solid one.
I can kind of understand RW. Wilson has had a couple of seasons with over 100 QBR and last season he had arguably the worst OL in the NFL.

RW's also been trending upward as a QB, improving his production per year with exception of the TD/INT ratio but not like his 2016 total was putrid or anything. If a 93 passer rating constitutes his worst season so far, then he's the real deal particularly playing with that awful O-Line that sucks in goalline rush situations.

what a shite article

LOLZ I agree, it lost all credibility solely based off that

Exactly. Cousins has been a better QB than Carr. He is a promising young QB but is not better than Brees. I don't think he's close yet.

It is Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, and Luck in that order. Matt Ryan is a choke artist will always be. Russell Wilson is really good ,but not quite on that level yet same for Derek Carr.

Look at this guys tweets. He's not qualified to comment on sports much less rank QBs.

Yeah I don't think Dobbs is quite ready to start either. But by start of next year I expect him to be under center on Sunday's. If Big Ben goes down I could definitely see a Dak Prescott situation on the horizon.

Yea yea yea we went 3-1 last year without Brady , but let's be real , the offense went from 0-100 real quick . Brady was unstoppable all year . I think Brees SHOULD be 3 no lower than 4 . Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Ryan, Carr, Russ, Ben(Health) I agree with everything else
