Had one for awhile until she knocked over and maybe chipped (I can't remember the exact details) one of my wife's crystal knick-knacks in the grandfather clock/display case. That was the end of that. Never got another.
Also I found that while I was out before and after surgery I could do enough every day to get it done. One room or chore a day or so.

My wife won't shut up about a maid. One week she was gone I did the yard and cleaned the entire house with young kids around and working. That shut her down. My neighbors go through maids like crazy. It's either theft or laziness usually that ends it. One day the guy came home and found the maid asleep on their bed.

I'm the type who would clean up before the maid got there so she wouldn't realize just how big of a pig I really am.
My wife makes me do this
Because we want the maid to be doing the heavy cleaning, not picking up my shoes from the den floor.
Twice a month for heavy lifting is perfect.

This. Find a maid with OCD. Mine color coordinated my closet and my dresser. Crazy what a difference that makes. Mine cost $90/visit. She does everything from laundry to walking the dog (not a sexual innuendo).
Dude, help a brotha pout with those digits........ I need this maid.

I have a weekly maid. My wife is quite lazy when it comes to housework.

Just yesterday I came home and walked around and saw how clean the house was, went to the bathroom, opened the medicine cabinet, and saw that my medicine cabinet had been completely re-organized and set up so that every drug was on the shelf from the top to bottom in alphabetical order. Now I'm not saying that they will do that if you don't want them to but that's the sort of attention to detail that you get when you call,
THE MAIDS!!!

Ah, so you or your wife doesn't work or have kids. Congrats!
My wife stays at home with four kids. So our house is always a mess.

We have one that comes every other Tuesday. $80 for the entire place to be clean. So worth it.

Everyone laugh at the guy who can't afford a maid.

If you're married and you pay for a maid, you sir are the sucker. Your wife has you by the balls.

I pay someone to cut the grass too...... Why do it if we don't want to and can easily afford to have someone else do it? Hell, my wife works more hours than I do. But I have my hobbies, so I sure as hell am not doing it.
And the day to day keeping things straight is not what I'm talking about. My wife is OCD about stuff. LIke someone else said, our closets will periodically get organized by color, etc. But the mopping, toilet cleaning, etc... don't even notice the $200 a month.

Wall Street Journal a few years ago published an article about retiring 7 years earlier if one cuts their own grass and cleans their own house. I wanna say it was like $250 a month average on what people spend on those services and if you were to put that into a good growth mutual fund you'd have a robust amount of money and could allow you to retire sooner.
