Like I posted earlier. Everyone wants Whitley apparently.
I'm not sure the path they have him on. But if he continues to dominate, he could be on a LMJ path as early as next year.
ETA: Ed wade is the GOAT

I just hate the man since he was on arguably the most hatable CFB team of all time.
He isn't right in the head either. During the sugar bowl, on one of the first drives he catches a out for a first down. After the play he tossed the ball at laron Landry. Laron targeted him the rest of the game, blowing coverage just whip his arse. That was an awesome arse whipping to attend

Nats starter done. Pitchers on contenders dropping like flies.

So this is COMPLETELY HYPTHOTHETICAL but, if Madbum was available would you give up Tucker and Whitley? (Of course several others in the top 10 would be involved, Martes, fisher, etc)
ETA: and/or Bregman included in the potential trade

You looking at Fisher, tucker, Whitley, Perez prolly, that's too much to give up. Not a part of the "10 year plan"

2013-2015 Bumgarner, yes.
2017 Bumgarner, I don't think so.

Getting bumgarner would cost so much your team would be worse after

Buddy just texted me this
"My cousin is sitting next to Guduan on a flight from Seattle that got grounded in Dallas to wait out the storm through Houston. He said Reymin is stressed because he said he has to be at the game tonight.
Guess we're expecting Musgrove to need some help tonight. Haha"

Whitley is the rare breed who is a big hoss built to be a starter who came out of high school able to throw 5 pitches. He will be a full time MLB starter by age 21 if he's healthy. Unlike Lance, health should be far less of an issue long term.

I know the cost would be astronomical, just sparking some conversation.
That being said, if the goal is to win a WS, it's interesting to think about (IMO) giving up those kinds of assets, for a pitcher of that caliber.
ETA: not that I think he'll even be available

The philosophy of this team is to avoid moves like that. Not something we would or should pursue.
Posted on 7/15/17 at 4:56 pm to texastiger38
I think getting bumgarner would also require legit major league talent
Posted on 7/15/17 at 4:58 pm to WestCoastAg
Agree, that's why I ETA Bregman.
If the Fangraphs trade rankings are any kind of indication (Madbum is 36 bregman is 38) it would cost him and several prospects.
I'd also like to add, I'm not in any way advocating for this, just gauging others' opinions

Like if you were to ask me what it would take for Kershaw, I'd say it would start at correa or maybe Springer and then we'd go from there
Bumgarner isn't necessarily on that level but hes in the neighborhood. Probably would need Bregman and more

Just need to see him pitch after he messed his shoulder up

Kershaw is an interesting deal, and even though he's a better pitcher than Madbum (IMO) he'd be essentially a rental since there's a clause in his contract that he can opt out after any season that he's traded.
Would be really cool to see the value of that vs the value of a Madbum who has 2 years of team control after this year, and cheap team control at that.

Oh absolutely, I was just talking about in a vacuum
Kershaw would not get as much as bumgarner IMO strictly because of that clause

At the right price, Samardzija is an interesting option. 3.09 xFIP & 3.26 SIERA. HR/FB is way up but I would expect that to come down. FB% below career average and soft contact % above career average. Striking out better than a batter an inning while waking just over 1 per 9.
18 mil a year isn't great, but not an insane number. Biggest issue is age. He'll be 35 in 2020.
The age is enough to scare me off, but it's not the craziest of ideas.

Jesus.
There isn't a package of players big enough. I almost wish the Dodgers were awful just to see somebody try to make a run at him. He'd be the ultimate addition to a contender. But for the Dodgers to put the best pitcher in baseball (and one of the best ever) on another team, they'd have to get multiple proven major leaguers as well as a haul of top prospects.
