... LSU football was for the most part a joke from about 1973, when the Tigers lost that infamous game at Tulane, until Saban arrived in 2000. Literally 27 years of frustration....

LSU football was good, but not great, in the years from 1984-88.

That period produced some of the most memorable games however: 3 victories each against highly ranked A&M teams, and Bama, 2 huge wins vs. Notre Dame, a big win @ USC, who won the Rose Bowl & finished #9, and the famous "Earthquake Game" victory over Auburn.

All about expectations. We used to hypothesize how we could/should still be MNC's even after losses. That was fun and kept things electric. It wasn't, 'we're the only ones who should ever win and if we don't, it's the AD's and Coaches head'.

good teams. two sugar bowls and a SEC title. even archer won a sec title although not outright. Still 2000 to 2007 was more exciting.
