I have a feeling he's not coming back so I wouldn't get to use this gif so let's consider it a preemptive response to whatever answer he might have come up with.

This berg alone, upon melting, can raise the level of the world's seas by up to a foot! And climate deniers celebrate in blissful ignorance.

but but I thought Anarctica was making ice on records pace just recently according to you deniers on here. btw this might be the largest iceberg in the entirety of human history.
Umm..Einstein...it is gaining record ice. Ice is heavy and changes weight dynamics. A chunk broke off. This has been happening forever.

I like how the writers change up the iceberg size comparisons for dramatic effect. It's the size of Delaware! It's FOUR times as big as London! 160 times as big as Manhattan!

This is what happens when you pull out of the Paris Climate deal. And it hasn't been that long...no telling what we will see in say 5 years. Probably be watching the world around us burn up
I take it that's a joke?

Yes..and you still don't accept reality. Is your denial a condition like OCD?

While I'm not saying this is the case in this instance, icebergs calve from their original source more often during times of sheet growth and cooling.

What are you bent out of shape about?
Large chunks of ice have always broken away from Antarctica. Where do you think icebergs in that part of the Earth come from?
Christ, you are a simpleton...read some published journal articles about the situation in Anarctic before you post such a fn stupid comment.

Is Antarctic ice increasing or decreasing?

That's a solid melt melt.

Please check your email for my CV. I'd appreciate your careful consideration for Ambassador to The Caribbean. I'd would be a cost savings to just have one Ambassador to pretty much the whole area. I can cover Florida as well if available.

When the melting is finished, I calculate it will raise the bullsheet level by several feet.

Ah, the default pseudo intellectual "read the journal article" retort with no backing.
Ice shelves break off for many reasons as they have for thousands of years. It's a regular accordance caused by relatively warmer water eroding underneath. Glaciers also put a lot of pressure on the shelves causing stress.

right now its at its typical average value
from 12 to 14 it was at record highs.
currently the amount of ice over land in artic is increasing because its winter.
this berg was part of an ice shelf that calved because its has suffered long term melting and basal thinning.

quote:So if it reattaches via overfreezing sea ice, how much will sea level drop?
but add 0.1mm to ocean levels!
Asked another way, WTF was supporting this outcropping of ice before it broke off?
Answer: The Ocean!
