Sure they should but that's not practical or realistic enough of a template to even mention out loud.

This is literally a terrible idea through and through. It will never happen, and for good reason too.

I disagree. I think the NBA should:
A. move to a stricter salary cap to break up the superstar laden squads

B. get better at enforcing fouls and traveling with some sort of equity,

C. expand to 32 teams

D. reduce the number of playoff teams from 16 to 12.

They should also consider realignment where the divisions are still based on geography, but maybe the conferences are not.
