I thought democrats weer the party of data and intellectualism. Why is the Seattle mayor, who touched little boys in his past life, trying to ignore the results of a study his own city commissioned?

quote:

The timeline seems to have gone like this: The UW shares with City Hall an early draft of its study showing the minimum wage law is hurting the workers it was meant to help; the mayor’s office shares the study with researchers known to be sympathetic toward minimum wage laws, asking for feedback; those researchers release a report that’s high on Seattle’s minimum wage law just a week before the negative report comes out.

No idea who voted for this clown

Even the hardcore lefties I knew hated Murray

I am guessing the Capitol Hill SJW/LGBT crowd is his base

which stats are you referring to here?

Its episodes like this that make me understand why the austrian school of economics rejects economic data. A lot of it really is cooked up

The real plan behind 15/hr min wage is for these businesses to fire folks and send them off to become even more dependent on government. There's always a deeper motive. There isn't an altruistic bone in the Democratic body.

I wasn't necessarily making a value judgment. I was simply remarking on how data can be used (improperly) by experts to make the layman believe anything they want.

On a personal level, I believe the anti-minimum wage results are more accurate, but I acknowledge that's entirely because it fits within my already held libertarian beliefs.

I heard a Yahoo finance guy (and we all know how left wing Yahoo is) in an interview about the study.
He agreed that it has hurt low wage earners because middle and smaller businesses cannot afford to cut into a very small profit margin.

But he said in the same time frame Seattle wages in all other categories went up. He couldn't explain it. My guess would be that middle management people had to assume some duties of lower workers that were laid off due to the MW hike.

Only the uneducated believe that money determines value. Value is determined by the common market. Money is just the means we employ to quantify value for the purpose of trade. So, changing the minimum wage does nothing to alter the status of those who earn it in the long run, because the market will adjust so that all values return to the same relative monetary amounts.

In other words, raise the minimum wage and you drive up inflation, so that in the long run the minimum wage earner's higher wages actually buy him less than his lower wages did prior to the change.

He loves "pizza".

Maybe all this talk about "fast-food workers" has him confused. He probably thinks $15/hr for a "pizza maker" is a steal.
