Pretty awful how they were trying to blame the spectators from day one. Those images of them mangled against the fence are haunting.

Prosecutors in Britain just charged 6 people in connection with the Hillsborough Disaster. At the time of this incident, Liverpool was only 4 years removed from the Heysel Stadium Disaster in Belgium. Given the level of football hooliganism in Britain in the 1980's, there was so much pressure on the FA to blame fans for this incident.

I've tried watching it twice, but I've never could bring myself to watching the whole thing.

This is one of my favorite pictures of all time. For those who don't really follow soccer, Everton (blue) and Liverpool (red) are the 2 major clubs in the city of Liverpool so the rivalry is obviously huge. Always very cool to see a sports rivalry put to the side in moments like these

People at the gates owed a duty of care.
In English criminal law:
1) a duty of care
2) breach of that duty resulting in death and a risk of death which would be obvious to a reasonable prudent person.
3) the defendant's conduct must have fallen so far below the standard of a reasonable person as to be grossly negligent.
In England, causing the death of another through reckless behavior (blatant disregard for the danger of the situation.).
Under English law, where a person owes a duty of care and is negligent to such a degree that consequently the law regards it as a crime (namely the person has been grossly negligent) and that person causes the victim to die, he may be liable for gross negligent manslaughter.
