Perspective, Disappointment, Complaints, and Onward!

PM needs to do some basic situational baseball study with his teams. This is not the first team that made bonehead plays at key times. A few come to mind:

1. sliding to where you protect the run scoring;
2. Knowing when you should catch a foul ball in key situations;
3. Knowing when trying to stretch a single into a double is smart and not;
4. Understanding how to work a pitcher when they dominate. There are good outs early in a game to get the pitch count up on someone. Do your best to stretch an at bat is the best defense against dominate pitching.
5. In today's college baseball LEARN TO BUNT!!!!!!! Even after the interference call they had a great chance to tie the game, just bunt to the 1st base line and Kramer scores uncontested.
6. Learn that you are not suppose to run from 3rd on a hard hit ball to the right, wait to see what play is made.

The team did much better than I expected this year, but PM teams are not mentally tough. They do not bounce back from adversity very well.

1.) Losing Walker hurt our pitching staff big time.

2.) Beating Oregon State twice in a row was a feat in and off itself.

3.) Our best players did NOT come through for us during these 2 games. It's not a knock on them. They got us here. We just needed a big knock from Diechman or a 3 for 3 night from one of the top 2 batters.

4.) Game 2 was a total team loss. Everyone had a hand in it. Whether it was a defensive error, poor base-running, or striking out with 2 on and nobody out, everyone that played would like to have 1 or 2 situations back to do-over.

5.) Florida, although not very flashy, played almost flawless baseball. No errors. Patience at the plate. No base-running blunders. We did not.

6.) We had our chances in both games but we just couldn't get over the hump.... and that's ok. That's baseball. Obviously, it wasn't meant to be. There were too many things going Florida's way.

7.) All in all I'm super proud of our team. You could tell how much they wanted it and how much they cared about each other. They just came up a little bit short of their ultimate goal.

Most fundamentally unsound LSU Baseball team I've ever seen.

Base running, sacrificing, and ability to work a pitcher was poor from beginning of the season to the end.

Disappointed, of course. But I feel horrible for the seniors that stayed to pursue their dreams of a national championship. Kudos for them. They taught our young players a lot over the course of the season, and LSU baseball will benefit greatly from that. So sad to see all of them go, but wish them much success at the next level.

I think the future is bright for our program. Thanks to each of our players and coaches for the great season.
