re: Why isn't college baseball more popular?

quote:I mean, Alabama is throwing about 4 first rounders into the league every year. Then they play USC or FSU or LSU or WASH, Clemson, OSU...and then bad teams that have clear NFL talent at plenty positions. aTm, UF, Ole Miss, Auburn.
Sure, there are a handful of guys that will make an impact on Sunday. But the rest of the guys aren't going anywhere.
Plenty weeks where I can watch future NFL matchups...with ease. Obvious NFL players going against each other.
Baseball....can't even come close to saying that. And even when you get it, it's for a few at bats each game and the odds of those guys making the Bigs is still insanely small.
And don't even get me started on basketball. 60 picks out of college? Maybe the first 12 have a shot with a few, literally a few, guys outside the top 12 having NBA careers?
I just don't see how you view CFB like the other 2.

Welp when I was in college, you got a bunch of cocky amateur college baseball players thinking they're the greatest shite in the world, meanwhile my best friend got drafted straight out of high school to the Yankees.

because it feels like such a different product than the majors. when youre watching college football and basketball, sure they are inferior products on the field or court, but you can at least see some semblance of the pro game. you really dont get that with college baseball

i absolutely agree when we are talking about the bottom and even mid levels of the game. but the high levels of college basketball is a good game filled with future NBA players going at one another
sure, it applies to college football more so, but i see enough of it in college basketball to hold my interest
cant say the same for college baseball

Weak QB
Knowing how much the rules help them added to them looking like idiots puts it almost on par with how bad college QBs are.
And getting to see college RBs have room to show their skill more than makes up for it IMO.
A good college completion % is what, 60-63%? So it's not like they're retarded. They just don't always make the big throws. Plus RBs impact the game.
^^^^^^thats the brand of football I like. It's way, WAY more balanced.
College baseball and college basketball can't be described as balanced.

Because the MLB is a better product with better players.
Posted on 6/27/17 at 11:38 pm to shel311
People give college basketball a pass because of the occasional incredible play within a 2 hour game vs the same occasional play and a 3+ hour game.. gorilla ball made college baseball unique and cool, we need to bring back some semblance of that.
I love a great defensive pitching game but the average occasional fan gets bored with that unless it's their team

Last year's college basketball national championship game looked only about 3 billion times more inferior to its pro counterpart than the last 2 college baseball games for me.

I think there are a couple reasons:
College baseball is focused on the southeast, Texas, and California, so a lot of big markets are left out, mainly the whole northeast which controls the media (no national broadcast hurt too).
During the beginning of the season it's still snowing in most of the Midwest and northeast schools, no one wants to sit out in that.
During the heart of college baseball season is March Madness, NBA playoffs, and Stanley Cup playoffs.
Lastly, college baseball has a lot of small schools that do well, who don't have big fan bases. The SEC schools dominate and pack stadiums, but a team like ULL who has great fan support still doesn't compare to the SEC schools in terms of fan base.

quote:Exactly. That can't be SBWM's answer to this every time.
So is the NBA and NFL, so I doubt that's the answer for the OP.
CRB utilizes a position in the game that is VERY entertaining. They do it much better than the NFL. It's obviously because college DLs and LBs aren't damn near perfect in rush defense like they are in the NFL......but that isn't t easily picked up in live speed.
And I don't care what anyone says. A balanced offense is fun to watch. While a run heavy or pass heavy offense gets somewhat stale.
And CFB has more diverse matchups than the NFL....which looks the same almost all the same time. College basketball has diverse matchups too.

quote:Because there are so many weak links on the field. The game is slower. Watching an NFL RB dominate is infinitely more impressive and entertaining than a CFB RB doing the same.

quote:That are pretty damn hard to pick up on.
Because there are so many weak links on the field.
Ok the center nails his first block, moves to the 2nd level and the LBr can't beat him and the RB has a 15 yard gain.
That's hard AF to pick up on in real time. And it's enjoyable to watch. Just because 1 LBer was a bit out of place and the other got stoned by the center...doesn't make that play not enjoyable. Not even in the slightest.

Watching an NFL RB dominate
You're right. But when does it happen?
And when it does it's for the same damn reason that it happens in college.

You're trying to convince me that CFB is as entertaining as the NFL. Good luck with that, hoss.
bad QBs
bad players
game is noticeably slower
