quote:
Saints quarterback Drew Brees raised eyebrows when he told PFT Live in March that his team is “very close” to getting back to the Super Bowl. One of his teammates has now taken the next step.
“We’re building a team to win a Super Bowl,” defensive end Cam Jordan tells Greg Bishop of SI.com, who guest-wrote Peter King’s Monday Morning Quarterback column this week. “We’re not building for the future. It’s hard not to believe in our team. We’re ready to win it now.”
So how much of that is the glass-half-full optimism/delusion that litters the league in June, and how much of it is real? The Saints have put together three straight 7-9 seasons despite having an abysmal defense. If the defense improves a little, they get to the playoffs. If the defense improves a lot, they’ll be partying like it’s 2009, with the kind of record that forces the road to Minnesota through Louisiana.
The team continues to be led by a 38-year-old quarterback whose teammates still believe in him. Zealously.
“Is there a better quarterback?” Jordan said regarding Brees. “You tell me how many 5,000-yard seasons have been produced in NFL history.”
There have been nine, in the 98-year history of the league. Brees has five of them. Every other quarterback who ever has played the game combined has four.
The Saints also have Adrian Peterson, a potential secret weapon that the team hasn’t been trying very hard to keep secret. Multiple players have praised his lingering abilities. If, when paired with Brees, Peterson can perform like he has throughout his career when healthy, many who should have seen it coming will be saying “we should have seen it coming.”

We have been a defense away for 7 years.

What do you expect them to say?
To some extent, they are right. If this team gets a few breaks along the way, they can contend. The NFL is designed to keep teams in contention and with a top self QB, you always have a punchers chance.

I just hope we finish with a winning record.

Our Saints defense has potential to be really good this season. I have a feeling, if we stay healthy on D, that Cam will BLOW IT UP this season! We need Rankins and Onyemata to bring the pain and Cam will get his sacks. I'm gettin that '09 feeling again. The time is now! Print the shirts!

Nah from what I hear we will never be able to field a team paying out QB 25 mil a year...I kid I kid
Let's go to the ship

I understand the media stuff is part of the game but I'm tired of the same type of answers we've been hearing for the past few years. Strap up and prove it on the field.

This. If we had a front office who actually knew what it was doing and knew how to build a defense, the Saints would be a potential dynasty. 2009, 2011, 2013, probably a couple other seasons. I love Sean Payton, but if this were Dallas, New England, etc, his arse would have been gone w/ the constant trash defenses he's allowed.

I've had that same '09 feeling too. I've predicted 11-5 and I'm sticking with it. The potential loss of Fairley stings a little but I think that the front 7 will hold their own. The difference will be the secondary, Latimore and Williams will make their presence felt. On offense, Kamara will be the difference maker.

Only thing holding us back is injuries, and unfortunately they're inevitable, especially with Armstead already out now.

Saints secondary has the potential to be very, very good by the time they are making their stretch run. Okafor is a huge upgrade over Kruger and we are basically trading Fairley for a healthy Rankins this year.
FS-Williams (very high football IQ AND a freak athlete)
SS-Bell
Box-Vaccarro
Nickel-PJ Williams
#1/2-Breaux and Lattimore
Some of those guys I know have little to no experience but their upside is as good as it gets. This is a talented secondary

I like the confidence but wasn't Cam one of the guys responsible for that League of Shadows debacle?

We hear this shite every year in the offseason.
