UCSB is heaven on earth

Internationally - Chinese students comprise the largest group of international pupils in the United States.
The Most Chinese Schools in America (students from China)
1. Illinois
2. USC
3. Purdue
4. Northeastern
5. Columbia
8. UCLA
10. Berkley
But UCLA would be #1 with Asian-Americans.
39% are Asian American
26% are white
20% are Latino

I thought berkley was over 40% Asian American but I could be wrong

UCSB
It made sense that all the hot LA blondes would go to UCSB (only two hours away) or Pepperdine (hey, school on the beach in Malibu!) - instead of South Central LA or even Westwood...in the 90's...when things were shite.
I'm still amazed that Pepperdine doesn't get about 1,000,000 applications a year.
Student loan baby! Have a 4-year spring break party with some of the hottest women in America.

Pepperdine is a small conservative private university. Plus their academics are not anywhere close to USC or UCLA
The problem with UCSB is the image they have created. Serious students would much rather attend UC Irvine, UC Davis or the two large UC's because they have a better image as a place for serious students. Nothing against UCSB but I have worked here in California for almost 17 years and I have seen how employers view UCSB compared to the other UC's.

Well I think they've sued a few times before...saying now they are being discriminated against.
Because by qualifications and academics a lot should get accepted...but the Universities in Cali are like frick...we need diversity, we need some white folks.
Affirmative action is actually illegal in California

But that's irrelevant in the nebulous world of college admissions.
And in a dumb move Asian-Americans voted against California’s ban in 1996 considering they have become the biggest benefactors of such a ban.
How can anybody prove why or why not they weren't accepted without an affirmative declaration by the University.
Because schools can still use all factors...when admitting students...sports, academics, background and yes any other make-believe trait to the enrichment of the student body.
So Asian students have sued due to not being accepted compared to students with lower test scores.
But that's a hard road. Because the courts have never said, it's just test scores - highest wins. College admissions are still allowed to take everything into account but race. And then can sure couch other traits not being race-based to decrease Asian acceptance.

My cousin went there. She said that it was pretty legit as a party school.
Yeah, like the poster above says it could be that you're thinking of San Diego St as far as a party school.
UC San Diego is a fantastic school and one of the coolest campuses given that you can walk down the cliffs to the beach.
However, it's probably even behind UC Berkeley as far as a party scene. SDSU is a huge party school like UC Santa Barbara though.

Used to be insanely huge in the 80's and 90's. Especially Halloween.
But then a lot of people died and the administration and cops came in.
And then going to party's at UCSB was basically waiting in line for a citation from cops.

You forgot the biggest fact of them all UCLA's fight song came from Big C Berkeley's fight song and they renamed it Sons of Westwood
Thanks for mentioning this. In the days before every football/basketball game was broadcast, the Southern Branch (aka UCLA) had much higher national exposure than Cal, so people would hear the fight song and associate it with them. So when they would hear the Cal band play the song, people assumed that Cal was the school that was stealing the song (and maybe even the colors and mascot). When UCLA visits Cal and their band plays the fight song, the Cal side reacts with "Get your own fight song!"

You're right, but it's still a more tricky, careful process than I imagined, as this article describes:
Lifting the Veil on the Holistic Process at the University of California, Berkeley
After Prop 209, black and hispanic enrollment plummeted at Cal, so it's a struggle to maintain diversity.
Interestingly, one effect of Prop 209, after witnessing the rise in Asian admissions at top universities, is that it highlighted how the top Ivy League schools suppress Asian and Jewish admissions (well unless you are in a position to make a big donation).
